Elon Set For CAA Championship Matchup With Drexel

ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball returns to action at 7 p.m. tonight for the Championship of the 2021 Hercules Tires CAA Tournament against sixth-seeded Drexel. The matchup will take place at the Atlantic Union Bank Center on the campus of James Madison, in Harrisonburg, Va.
 
COVERAGE
- Listen to the Elon Sports Network from Learfield IMG College coverage on the TuneIn app, with the pregame show beginning at 6:30 p.m.
- Elon's game against Drexel will be broadcasted live on CBS Sports Network.
- National radio coverage of the game will also be handled by Westwood One via the mobile TuneIn app. It will also be available on westwoodone.com and Sirus XM Channel 84.

THE MATCHUP
- This marks the 15th time that Elon and Drexel will meet in program history, with the series tied 7-7.
- In their most recent meeting on Feb. 15, 2020, Elon defeated Drexel, 75-70.

ABOUT ELON
- Elon is led by sophomore guard Hunter McIntosh, who leads the team in scoring at 15.5 ppg, adding 3.3 rpg.
- Sophomore forward Hunter Woods leads the team in rebounding (6.9 rpg) and is fifth on the team in scoring (8.0 ppg).
- Ikenna Ndugba ranks second on the team in scoring and rebounding, averaging 9.7 ppg and 5.1 rpg.
- Guard Kris Wooten and Darius Burford are combining to average 15.7 ppg and 4.3 rpg.
- In its most recent outing, Elon defeated Hofstra, 76-58, to advance to the Championship of the 2021 CAA Tournament for the second consecutive year.
- Darius Burford led the way for Elon, dropping 19 points on 8-of 16 shooting. Burford also added a career-high six assists and four rebounds on the night.
- Ikenna Ndugba chipped in 14 points, a game-high 10 rebounds and three assists for the Phoenix. Ndugba's double-double is the first for Elon this season.
- Hunter Woods finished with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the floor, grabbing seven rebounds along the way.
Simon Wright logged 10 points and six rebounds in just under 22 minutes of action, while Hunter McIntosh posted 10 points, four assists and three rebounds in the win.
- Chuck Hannah dropped seven points and a career-high nine rebounds, including a late three to cap the win for the Phoenix.
- Elon's win advances them to the CAA Championship game for the first time in program history.
- This marks the first time that an eight-seed has advanced to the CAA Championship in league history. Elon also became the first eight-seed to defeat a No. 1 seed in the CAA Tournament with its win against JMU Sunday night.
- The Phoenix is currently on a season best seven-game winning streak.

SCOUTING DREXEL
- Drexel enters the CAA Tournament as the No. 6 seed after finishing the regular season with an overall record of 9-7 with a 4-5 record in conference play.
- Zach Spiker is in the midst of his fifth season as the head coach of the Drexel program after serving as the head coach at Army West Point for seven seasons.
- The Dragons are led by Camren Wynter, who is currently averages 17.3 ppg and 5.4 apg. Drexel has also gotten major contributions from James Butler, who is averaging 13.3 ppg and 9.2 rpg.

CAA TOURNAMENT INFO
- The 2020-21 CAA Tournament will be held at the Atlantic Union Bank Center in Harrisonburg, Va. from March 6-9.
- There will be no public sale of tickets for the Hercules Tires CAA Men's Basketball Championship. Attendance at the championship will be limited to families and guests of student-athletes and coaches.
