Archer Earns Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award in ITA Carolina Region

ELON, N.C. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association has announced that Elon University women's tennis junior Olivia Archer has been named the Carolina Region's recipient of the 2020-21 Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sportsmanship Award.

"Arthur Ashe was an incredible role model and leader," head coach Elizabeth Anderson began. "I am very happy that Olivia has received this well-deserved honor. Olivia is very committed to academics, tennis and service and is making a tremendous impact on our team and community."

Archer earned the honor after helping lead the Phoenix to a 17-5 overall record and a berth to the CAA Tournament semifinals. In singles play, she posted a 10-5 mark, including a 5-3 record in the No. 4 slot. Down the stretch of the season, Archer came up big for Elon, winning six of her final nine contests. Her 10 singles victories tied her with Alison O'Dea for third most on the team. Archer was equally as effective in doubles play, combining with Sibel Tanik for third on the team in wins as a duo (9). The tandem finished with a 4-1 mark in the No. 2 slot and won seven of their last ten doubles matches to end the season.

Off the court, Archer has served as the Vice President of Elon's Student-Athlete Advisory Committee since August of 2018 and has been on the social committee for Alpha Kappa Psi since September of 2020. She has also gotten involved in work-based learning programs where she spent some time as a StratComm Researcher before eventually going on to intern with Ckezepis Law Firm in June of 2020. Additionally, Archer has played a key role in coordinating the team's volunteer work with the local Boys & Girls Club.

A co-captain this past season, Archer will enter her senior year just outside of the top-15 for singles wins in program history (36). With 31 doubles wins to date, she is also just eight victories shy of breaking into the top-10 in program history for doubles wins.

Every year the ITA recognizes coaches and players for their excellence on the court and in their communities throughout the season. A full look at the 2020-21 Division I Women's Regional Awards winners is included below.
