ELON, N.C. – After both teams captured tournament wins this fall, the Elon University men's and women's golf programs will look to build on that success as the teams announced their respective 2022 spring schedules on Monday, Jan. 10.
"It's nice to be back on campus with classes beginning," said men's head coach
Don Hill. "We've got eight weeks to prepare for Puerto Rico and the start of our spring season. This spring will afford us new places to compete at, the first being Puerto Rico with it being a big-time trip with some strong competition. There will be several Big 10 teams competing, as well as Kentucky and Virginia Tech along with some CAA programs that we're very familiar with. We have many reasons to be excited about our upcoming schedule."
First up for the men's team is the Dorado Beach Collegiate, hosted by UNCG at TPC Dorado Beach on Feb. 27-March 1 in Dorado Beach, Puerto Rico. The maroon and gold will travel to Mid Pines Golf Club in Southern Pines, N.C. on March 7-8 for George Mason's Donald Ross Collegiate Classic before playing in the University of Richmond's Forest Creek Collegiate on March 12-13 at Forest Creek Golf Club in Pinehurst, N.C.
The men's team will be in Kannapolis, N.C. on April 2-3 for the Irish Creek Intercollegiate, co-hosted by UNC Charlotte and Davidson at the Club at Irish Creek. Elon then heads to Spartanburg, S.C. on April 11-12 for the Wofford Intercollegiate at the Country Club of Spartanburg. The 2022 CAA Championship will be played at Dataw Island in St. Helena Island, S.C. on April 24-26.
"Our last nine rounds in the fall, eight of which were par or better, showed a remarkable amount of consistency with our 1-through-5 guys all contributing," went on Hill. "We've got a very deep roster made up of both young and old talent. We played our entire roster in our final two events in the fall and we're fortunate to have the opportunity to take everyone to Puerto Rico. Our younger guys have played really well early, and we have some upper classmen who have played strong as well. I expect this spring to be incredibly competitive within our team. That competition should make us better week in and week out as we build toward Dataw and the CAA Championship."
For the women's team, the Phoenix opens its spring slate at Charleston Southern's Rivertowne Invitational on Feb. 28-March 1 at the Rivertowne Golf Club in Charleston, S.C. Next up for Elon is UNCW's River Landing Classic on March 7-8 at River Landing Golf Course in Wallace, N.C. The team then concludes the month at the Bama Beach Bash, hosted by South Alabama at Gulf Shores Golf Club in Gulf Shores, Ala. on March 20-22.
Elon will be in Morganton, N.C. on April 3-5 for Appalachian State's Mimosa Hills Intercollegiate. The Phoenix then heads to Southport, N.C. on April 15-17 for the 2022 CAA Championship at the Clubs at St. James.
"We are looking forward to a great spring season," said women's head coach
Chris Dockrill. "After a win and two runner-up finishes in the fall, we feel confident going into the spring and are excited to make a run at the conference championship."
