ELON, N.C. – Elon University men's basketball returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 22, when it travels to Newark, Del. for a 1 p.m. matchup with Delaware.

THE MATCHUP
- Saturday afternoon marks the 17th meeting between Elon and Delaware.
- The Phoenix is currently tied with the Blue Hens in the all-time series, 8-8.
- In the most recent meeting between the two programs, Elon fell to Delaware, 75-70, in Newark on Jan. 31, 2021.
- Hunter McIntosh led the way for Elon, dropping a career-best 30 points, seven assists and three rebounds in 30 minutes. Hunter Woods chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds in the loss.

SCOUTING ELON
- Former CAA All-Rookie honoree Darius Burford is currently leading the team in scoring (12.2 ppg), assists (3.0 apg) and steals (1.6 spg), while being third on the team in rebounding (4.3 rpg). Burford has scored in double figures 11 times this season and has nabbed at least two steals in eight games this year. His 14.5 ppg scoring averaging in conference play also ranks top-15 in the CAA.
- Junior guard and Preseason All-CAA First Team honoree Hunter McIntosh, ranks second the team in scoring at 11.8 points per game, adding 3.0 assists per contest as well. McIntosh has scored in double figures in 45 career games, including 11 times this season. He currently ranks in the top-15 in the conference in scoring at 14.2 ppg through five CAA contests this year.
- Sophomore center Michael Graham ranks third on the team in scoring (8.7 ppg), while leading the team in rebounding at 6.6 rpg. Graham has scored at least 10 points in seven straight games and has registered three double doubles this season. In his most recent contest, Graham set a new Elon Division I program record for rebounds in a game with 17.
- Torrence Watson is fourth on the team in scoring 8.3 points per game, adding 2.7 rebounds per contest as well. Watson has gotten to the charity stripe a team-high 57 times this season, knocking down 48 of his attempts for an 84.2 free throw percentage.
- Junior forward Zac Ervin is fifth on the team in scoring, averaging 8.1 points per game, adding 3.5 rebounds per contest. Ervin has knocked down 33 threes while shooting at a 35.1 percent clip from long distance so far this season.
- Junior forward Hunter Woods is chipping in 7.5 points and 4.9 rebounds in 25.7 minutes through 18 games this season. Woods is also currently second on the team in steals this season with 23 total.
- Senior forward Chuck Hannah is averaging 5.1 points and 3.0 rebounds in 21.8 minutes per game since returning from injury against High Point.
- Freshman center Sam Sherry has gotten his Elon career off to a solid start, averaging 2.2 points in just under eight minutes of action per game.
- Center Andrew Junkin made his return from injury against JMU, finishing the night with season-highs in points (6) and rebounds (3).
- Elon currently ranks in the top-2 in the CAA in total threes made (182 – 1st), threes made per game (9.6 – 2nd) and total assists (254 – 2nd).
- Elon set a program record for points at Schar Center (107), threes made (20) and assists (27) in its home opener against Randolph.
- Seniors Chuck Hannah and Kris Wooten will serve as the team captains for the 2021-22 season.
- This season marks the third for Head Coach Mike Schrage at the helm of the Elon program.
 
SCOUTING DELAWARE
- Delaware enters the contest with an 13-6 overall record and 4-2 record in CAA play after defeating William & Mary, 84-74, in its most recent contest. Ebby Asamoah led the Blue Hens in the contest, dropping 19 points, three rebounds, three assists and two blocks. Kevin Anderson added 18 points and six assists, while Andrew Carr chipped in 14 points, six boards and five assists.
- Martin Ingelsby is in the midst of his sixth season at the helm of the Delaware program. Ingelsby spent 13 seasons as a member of the Notre Dame staff prior to taking over the Blue Hens program in 2016.
- The Blue Hens are led by Dylan Painter who leads the team in scoring at 14.1 ppg and rebounding at 8.0 rpg. Drexel has also gotten contributions from Jameer Nelson Jr. (13.8 ppg and 5.2 rpg) and Ryan Allen (13.6 ppg and 2.0 rpg) early on this season.
 
LAST TIME OUT
- Elon fell to Drexel, 77-49, on Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Daskalakis Athletic Center in Philadelphia, Pa.
- Michael Graham led the charge for Elon, finishing with 14 points and a career-high 17 rebounds. His 17 boards also set a new Division I program record for the Phoenix. Graham has now scored in double-figures in seven straight games and has recorded three double-doubles this season.
- Hunter Woods chipped in 16 points on 4-of-6 shooting from the field, 3-of-3 shooting from beyond the arc and 5-of-5 from the free throw line. The performance marked a new season-high in scoring for Woods and gave him his eighth 10+ point game this season and the 30th of his career.
- Hunter McIntosh and Darius Burford combined for 12 points and five rebounds on the night.  
- Elon held a 14-5 advantage in second chance points and a 37-27 advantage on the glass.­
 
THE FACES OF 2021-22
- Elon returned three starters in Chuck Hannah, All-CAA Second Team honoree Hunter McIntosh and CAA All-Rookie selection Darius Burford.
- Other returnees for the Phoenix includes seniors Jerald Gillens-Butler, Kris Wooten and Charlie Mendys, juniors Ben Daugherty, Hunter Woods and Zac Ervin, and sophomores Michael Graham and JaDun Michael.
-Additionally, the maroon and gold welcomes five newcomers to the squad in Mizzou transfer Torrence Watson, Mississippi State transfer Andrew Junkin and freshmen RJ Noord, Sam Sherry and Reece Clark.
 
CAA PRESEASON POLL
- The Colonial Athletic Association announced its preseason poll on Thursday, Oct. 28, with Elon tabbed to finish sixth.
- The Phoenix had two student-athletes earn preseason all-conference honors in Hunter McIntosh (1st Team) and Jerald Gillens-Butler (Honorable Mention).
- Elon earned a total of 202 points in the poll, including one first-place vote.
- Delaware was chosen as the preseason favorite with 296 points and 19 first-place votes, followed by Northeastern with 246 points and seven first-place votes. Drexel (234 points; five first-place votes), James Madison (224 points, three first-place votes) and Hofstra (211 points; one first-place vote) rounded out the top five.
 
COMING SOON
- The Phoenix returns to action on Jan. 22, when it travels to Newark, Del. for a matchup with Delaware.
- Following that game, Elon heads back to Schar Center for a Jan. 27 matchup with William & Mary. The Phoenix will then head to Williamsburg, Va. for a Jan. 29 matchup with the Tribe.
- Elon will then host UNCW (Feb. 3) and College of Charleston (Feb. 5) at Schar Center.
