Women’s Tennis Announces Two Additions for 2023 Recruiting Class

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis head coach Elizabeth Anderson announced the signings of Simone Bergeron and Mariana Reding on Friday. 
 
"We are very excited about the signing of Mariana and Simone," Anderson said. "Both are outstanding students, incredible athletes and strong competitors who thrive in the team atmosphere." 
 
Simone Bergeron 
A native of Vienna, Va., Bergeron is in her second year as a captain at James Madison High School. Bergeron is currently the No. 5 ranked recruit in the state of Virginia and has achieved a national ranking as high as No. 115 according to tennisrecruiting.com. Bergeron won the 2022 Virginia class 6 girls-state championship singles title and has been the 6D North Region singles champion each of the last two season. She was also the 6D North Region doubles champion in 2021. Off the court, Bergeron is a member of the National Honor Society and a member of James Madison's Student Government Executive Board. 
 
"In addition to tennis, Simone has played several other sports and is tremendously athletic," Anderson said. "She has incredible energy and passion for competing for the team. Her strong work ethic will enable her game to continue to blossom in college tennis."
 
Mariana Reding 
The younger sister of Elon junior Lizette Reding, Mariana is a native of Leon, Mexico. Reding earned her first career ITF junior singles title earlier this year at the J4 Leon Tournament, as she won 12 straight sets to win the event. Reding also has six ITF doubles titles, including three in 2022. Reding is currently No. 423 in the ITF junior rankings and reached a career-high of 278 in January. She is 27-18 this season in ITF junior singles matches and 28-11 in ITF junior doubles matches. 
 
"Mariana has played extensively on the ITF circuit, including winning six doubles titles and a singles title on the circuit," Anderson said. "She is very dedicated to her tennis and extremely driven to reach her full potential in college."
