This marks the Phoenix's first exhibition game since Nov. 5, 2019, when it defeated Winston-Salem State 77-48. It will be the first time Elon has faced Belmont Abbey since beating the Crusaders 58-54 in an exhibition on Oct. 27, 2018.
Lexi Mercer paced the Phoenix with 19 points in that game, its first inside Schar Center.
Entering her 12th season at Elon, head coach
Charlotte Smith welcomes back seven players from last year's squad, led by second-team preseason All-CAA selection Evonna McGill. They're joined by seven newcomers in Rider graduate transfer Lenaejha Evans and freshmen Hannah Dereje, Raven Preston, Aly Wadkovsky, Regina Walton, Ruby Willard and Chloe Williams.
Coming off a 17-12 campaign in 2021-22, Elon was picked to finish fourth in the CAA Preseason Poll, marking the sixth time in its nine CAA seasons that the Phoenix has ranked fourth or better in the conference's preseason balloting.
Elon will open the regular season at 5 p.m. Monday at Wake Forest before visiting NC State next Thursday, Nov. 10, for a 7 p.m. tilt. The Phoenix will then hold its home opener against High Point at 7 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 13.
