Elon Hits The Road For Tuesday Afternoon Matchup With Charleston

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis returns to action on Tuesday, March 15, when it travels to Charleston, S.C. for a 1:30 p.m. matchup with College of Charleston.
 
GAMEDAY COVERAGE
- Tuesday's action will begin with doubles play at 1:30 p.m. with singles to follow shortly after.

THE MATCHUP
- Tuesday afternoon marks the 20th meeting between Elon and Charleston.
- The Phoenix currently trails in the all-time series, 4-15.
- In the most recent meeting between the two programs, Elon fell to Charleston, 4-3, on April 7, 2019.
- Elon's most recent win against the Cougars came on March 31, 2018 when it took home a 4-3 road win.

SCOUTING ELON
- The Phoenix enters the contest with a 9-5 record after after defeating Morgan State, 6-1, in its most recent outing.
- Olivia Archer is leading the way for Elon, as the junior has racked up a team-high nine wins early this season. Archer has also won seven of her last eight matches.
- Julie Ball ranks second on the team in singles play, as she holds a 7-4 overall record and a 6-4 mark in the No. 4 slot this season.
- Alison O'Dea and Lizette Reding are tied for third on the team in singles victories, as the sophomores each hold six wins this season.
- Sibel Tanik is currently fourth on the squad with five singles wins on the year. Tanik holds a 5-4 mark overall and in the No.1 position.
- Shauna Galvin and Sarah Allen are the only Phoenix that are still undefeated in singles play, as Galvin holds a perfect 4-0  record early this season, while Allen moved to 1-0 and picked up her first career win against Pfeiffer.
- Victoria Saldh rounds out the singles wins for Elon with four.
- The tandem of Olivia Archer and Alison O'Dea is leading the way for the Phoenix in doubles play, as the duo holds a team-best 9-4 mark and has won nine of its last 10 matches.
- The combination of Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding ranks second on the team in doubles wins, as the duo has won seven matches this season.
- Julie Ball and Victoria Saldh currently rank third on the team in doubles wins as a duo with six.
- Olivia Archer and Alison O'Dea were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week on March 2, after winning all three of their matches last week against North Carolina A&T, Methodist and Pfeiffer respectively.
- On Wednesday, Feb. 2, the CAA announced that junior Sibel Tanik was named its Player of the Week. It was the first honor of the season for the Phoenix and was the first Player of the Week award of Tanik's career.
- Four All-CAA selections return for the Phoenix in 2021-22 in Sibel Tanik (1st Team), Lizette Reding (Rookie of the Year; 2nd Team Singles; 3rd Team Doubles), Victoria Saldh (3rd Team Singles), and Alison O'Dea (3rd Team Doubles).
- Other returners for the Phoenix include Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sport Excellence Award recipient, Olivia Archer, and junior Shauna Galvin.
- The Phoenix is led by Elizabeth Anderson, who will begin her 18th season at the helm of the program in 2021-22.
 
SCOUTING COLLEGE OF CHARLESTON
- The Cougars enter Tuesday's contest riding a 4-match win streak after defeating Fairfield, 6-1, in its most recent outing.
- Charleston is led by Angelo Anastopoulo who is in his 31st season at the helm of the program. Anastopoulo has led the team to six NCAA Tournament appearances in his 31 seasons.
- Halli Trinkle leads the Cougars in singles play with an 11-1 singles record and is on a 10-match win streak.
- The pairing of Slade Coetzee and Halli Trinkle is currently holds the top mark for Charleston in doubles play at 7-2
- The Cougars are currently 8-5 overall and 7-1 at home this season.

LAST TIME OUT
- Elon won its sixth consecutive home match on Sunday, March 13, defeating Morgan State, 6-1, at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- Olivia Archer clinched the match for the Phoenix, taking down Anabel Torrente 6-2, 6-2 in No. 4 singles. The win marked Archer's team-leading ninth of the season and was her seventh win in her last eight outings.
- Lizette Reding got the ball rolling in singles play, making quick work of Averianna Mitchell 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 2 position. Reding now holds a 3-2 mark in No. 2 singles and has logged a victory in five of her last six competitions.
- Sibel Tanik extended Elon's lead to 3-0 early in the match, finishing Analei Kalawe in straight sets 6-1, 6-1 in the No. 1 spot. The win moved Tanik to 5-4 overall on the year.
- Alison O'Dea picked up her sixth win of the year, outlasting Asmara Rose 6-2, 7-5 in the No. 5 slot. O'Dea now sits at 6-6 overall and holds a 2-3 mark in No. 5 singles.
- Shauna Galvin rounded out the singles wins for the Phoenix, beating Nolwenn Cordoso 6-4, 6-2 in the No. 6 position. Galvin remained undefeated with the win, as she moved to 4-0 overall on the year.
- The combination of Tanik and Reding clinched the doubles point for Elon, taking down Mitchell and Rose 6-2 in the No. 1 position. The win moved the duo to 7-5 overall this season.
- The tandem of Archer and O'Dea got the ball rolling in doubles play, making quick work of Torrente and Maysiadi 6-1 in the No. 3 spot. The duo now holds a team-best 9-4 mark on the year and has won nine of its last 10 matches.
- Julie Ball and Victoria Saldh rounded out the doubles wins, as the duo defeated Kalawe and Hannah Smith 6-3 in No. 2 doubles. It marked the sixth win of the year for the pair.
 
THE FACES OF 2021-22
- The Phoenix welcomes back six returners from last year's squad in seniors Olivia Archer and Victoria Saldh, juniors Shauna Galvin and Sibel Tanik, and sophomores Lizette Reding and Alison O'Dea.
- Elon will feature two newcomers this season in first-year Sarah Allen and Tennessee transfer Julie Ball.
- Allen joins the Phoenix from Christ Church Episcopal School, where she was a five-time team State Champion from 2016-2020 and earned four top-5 finishes at the All-State Singles Championships in 2017 (5th), 2018 (4th), 2019 (4th) and 2020 (2nd).
- Ball comes to Elon from the University of Tennessee where she earned Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll honors in 2020.
 
COMING SOON
- The Phoenix rounds out March on Saturday, March 26, when it hosts UNCW at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- Elon will then open April with matchups against JMU (April 9) and UNC Greensboro (April 13) respectively.
