ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis continues its spring season this weekend when it travels to Davidson and Raleigh, N.C. for contests against Davidson and NC State.
 
The Phoenix will open the weekend with a 1 p.m. matchup with Davidson on Saturday, March 5, before returning to action the next day, March 6, for a bout against NC State at 5 p.m.
 
GAMEDAY COVERAGE
- Saturday's action will begin with doubles play at 1 p.m. with singles to follow shortly after.
- Sunday's action will also get underway with doubles play, with competition starting at 5 p.m.

THE MATCHUP
- Saturday afternoon marks the 20^th meeting between the Phoenix and Davidson.
- The Phoenix currently leads in the all-time series 10-9.
- In the most recent meeting between the two programs, Elon defeated Davidson, 4-1, on April 17, 2021.
- Sunday afternoon marks the fifth meeting between the Phoenix and NC State.
- In the most recent matchup between the two programs, Elon fell to NC State, 7-0, on Feb. 20, 2016.

SCOUTING ELON
- The Phoenix enters the contest with a 7-3 record after defeating Methodist and Pfeiffer, 7-0, in its double-header this past weekend. It was the seventh win for in eight outings for Elon.
- Julie Ball is leading the way for Elon in singles play, as she holds a 6-2 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the No. 4 slot this season. Ball is currently on a team-best six match winning streak.
-  Olivia Archer is currently tied for the team-lead in singles wins with six. Archer is 2-0 in No. 4 singles and is on a four-match winning streak.
- Alison O'Dea ranks third on the team for singles victories, as the sophomore holds a 5-4 overall record this season. O'Dea has won five of her last seven singles contests.
- Sibel Tanik and Victoria Saldh are tied for fourth on the squad in with four singles wins each. Tanik and Saldh are also both on four-match winning streaks.
- Shauna Galvin and Sarah Allen are the only Phoenix that are still undefeated in singles play, as Galvin holds a perfect 3-0  record early this season, while Allen moved to 1-0 and picked up her first career win against Pfeiffer.
- The tandem of Olivia Archer and Alison O'Dea is leading the way for the Phoenix in doubles play, as the duo holds a team-best 6-3 mark and is currently on a six-match winning streak. The combo also sits at 2-0 in the No. 2 slot.
- The combinations of Julie Ball and Victoria Saldh and Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding are tied for second on the team in doubles wins, as each duo has won five matches this season.
- Olivia Archer and Alison O'Dea were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week on March 2, after winning all three of their matches last week against North Carolina A&T, Methodist and Pfeiffer respectively.
- On Wednesday, Feb. 2, the CAA announced that junior Sibel Tanik was named its Player of the Week. It was the first honor of the season for the Phoenix and was the first Player of the Week award of Tanik's career.
- Four All-CAA selections return for the Phoenix in 2021-22 in Sibel Tanik (1^st Team), Lizette Reding (Rookie of the Year; 2^nd Team Singles; 3^rd Team Doubles), Victoria Saldh (3rd Team Singles), and Alison O'Dea (3^rd Team Doubles).
- Other returners for the Phoenix include Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sport Excellence Award recipient, Olivia Archer, and junior Shauna Galvin.
- The Phoenix is led by Elizabeth Anderson, who will begin her 18^th season at the helm of the program in 2021-22.
 
SCOUTING DAVIDSON
- Davidson enters the contest with a 6-2 overall record after defeating Radford, 4-3, in its most recent outing.
- Davidson is led by Susanne Depka who is in her fifth season at the helm of the Wildcats program. Depka has been with program since 2014 as an assistant coach and is a former professional player for the WTA tour.
- The Wildcats are led by Kavya Patel who holds a 7-1 record in singles play so far this season. Patel is currently on a team-best seven match winning streak.
- Mira Gladston and Elizabeth Truluck are leading the way for Davidson in doubles play, as the duo sits at 5-2 early on this season.
 
SCOUTING NC STATE
- NC State enters the contest with a 12-1 overall record after defeating #54 Florida State, 6-1, in its most recent outing.
- The Wolfpack is led by Simon Earnshaw, who is in his eighth season at the helm of the program. Earnshaw led NC State to the 2021 Final Four.
- In singles play, Priska Nugroho is leading the way for NC State with an 8-2 mark early this season.
- In doubles, Jaeda Daniel and Nell Miller hold the top mark as the duo is undefeated at 9-0.
 
LAST TIME OUT
- Elon swept both Methodist and Pfeiffer, 7-0, to extend its winning streak to four on Saturday, Feb. 26 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- Alison O'Dea led the way for the Phoenix, taking down Kamdyn Balko (MU) 6-1, 6-4 in No. 4 singles and Darby Sherrill (PFU) 6-0, 6-1 in No. 3 singles.
- Victoria Saldh extended her winning streak to four, making quick work of Megan Kidd (MU) 6-0, 6-1 and Sydney Gray (PFU) 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 slot.
- Shauna Galvin clinched the first match for Elon, defeating Hannah Higgins (MU) 6-0, 6-0 before sweeping Brittany Mills (PFU) 6-0, 6-0 later in the afternoon.
- Olivia Archer continued her strong play of late, sweeping both Luciana Forma (MU) and Alison Sloop (PFU) in straight sets 6-0, 6-0.
- Sibel Tanik won her fourth straight match, defeating Abby Caddick (MU) 6-0, 6-0 in No. 1 singles.
- Julie Ball pushed her winning streak to a team-best six matches with her 6-0, 6-1 win over Jill Lawrence (MU).
- Lizette Reding won her second consecutive match, taking down Megan Rekieta (PFU) 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets.
- Sarah Allen rounded out the singles victories for the Phoenix, finishing Taylor Brashears (PFU) without allowing a point, 6-0, 6-0.
- The combination of Tanik and Reding dominated in No. 1 doubles on Saturday, taking down Caddick and Balko (MU) 6-1 and Rekieta and Gray (PFU) 6-1 respectively.
- Archer and O'Dea didn't allow a point in doubles play, making quick work of Forma and Higgins (MU) and Sloop and Hudson (PFU) 6-0.
- Saldh and Ball won their second consecutive doubles match, finishing Kidd and Lawrence (MU) 6-0 in the No. 2 position.
- Allen and Galvin clinched the doubles point for Elon against Pfeiffer, sweeping Brashears and Sherrill 6-0 in the No. 3 position.
 
THE FACES OF 2021-22
- The Phoenix welcomes back six returners from last year's squad in seniors Olivia Archer and Victoria Saldh, juniors Shauna Galvin and Sibel Tanik, and sophomores Lizette Reding and Alison O'Dea.
- Elon will feature two newcomers this season in first-year Sarah Allen and Tennessee transfer Julie Ball.
- Allen joins the Phoenix from Christ Church Episcopal School, where she was a five-time team State Champion from 2016-2020 and earned four top-5 finishes at the All-State Singles Championships in 2017 (5th), 2018 (4th), 2019 (4th) and 2020 (2nd).
- Ball comes to Elon from the University of Tennessee where she earned Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll honors in 2020.
 
COMING SOON
- The Phoenix will then return home for matchups with NC Central (March 11) and Morgan State (March 13).
- Elon hits the road again on March 15-16, as it travels to Charleston, S.C. to take on College of Charleston (March 15) and Charleston Southern (March 16).
