Defensive Backs
Offensive Line
Although Elon will need to find a replacement for team captain starting nose guard
Tristen Cox, the Phoenix is well positioned to continue to develop along the defensive line. With defensive ends
Torrence Williams and
Marvin Pearson back in 2022, Elon will look to disrupt opposing offenses this fall.
Â
"I am excited about this unit as we bring all of our guys back besides Tristen," Defensive Line Coach
Seth Payne said. "It is an older group that has played a lot of games together. We need to focus on doing the little things right which will lead to us being a productive position group."
Â
Williams, a redshirt senior who hails from Burlington, was selected fourth team All-CAA by Phil Steele in 2021. He started all 11 games and finished with 46 tackles, 6.0 for loss. He blocked a key fourth quarter field goal attempt at Maine and was a disruptive force in the win over No. 25 Rhode Island to close the year.
Â
Pearson, a junior, has the potential to be just as disruptive at the other end position. He started nine games and had 18 tackles as well as 6.0 for loss. He forced a fumble against Rhode Island that was returned for a touchdown and recovered a fumble that stopped a potential James Madison scoring drive on the one-yard line.
Â
Elon's WILL linebackers add a dynamic pass rush skill to the position group. Sophomore
Trey Alsbrooks started all 11 games a year ago and was fifth on the squad with 51 tackles, adding 3.5 for loss and 2.5 sacks. Redshirt junior
Darwin Frett had 16 tackles, 1.5 for loss, in extensive time during the fall. Redshirt freshman
Zy'Mere Reddick has seen limited playing time but did earn valuable experience in the fall.
Â
Elon does have depth along the defensive line as well. Sophomore
Josh Johnson started twice and finished the year with 20 tackles and had five quarterback hurries. Redshirt sophomore
Marvion Field played in all 11 games and had 10 tackles on the season. Redshirt freshman
Parris Lowery saw action in each of the final four games of the season and added a tackle. Redshirt freshmen
Jake Louro and
Donovan Everette both saw limited action during the year.
Â
Redshirt freshman
James Watts took the fall of 2021 to develop and will add to the depth. Another redshirt freshman,
Jon Seaton, played three games on the offensive line in 2021 but will transition to the defense this spring.
Â
Elon announced the signing of two defensive linemen as well for the fall of 2022.
Cazeem Moore and
Chuck Nnaeto will join the Phoenix in the fall.
