ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball opens up an eight game homestand on Tuesday, April 12 as the Phoenix (15-16, 3-6 CAA) hosts East Carolina for a 6 p.m. game at Latham Park.

THE SERIES
- ECU is ahead in the all-time series, 55-32-1.
- Tuesday's game marks the second meeting in the home-and-home series this season.
- Elon fell just short 7-6 back on March 23 at Clark-LeClair Stadium. The Phoenix jumped ahead 3-2 in the third thanks to a three-run blast by
Luke Stephenson, but a three-run bottom of the sixth proved to be too much for the maroon and gold.

Jake Nolan (1-1) received the loss as he gave up one run on as many hits and no walks. He struck out one batter in 0.2 innings out of the pen. Starter
Ian Evans threw one complete inning and was tagged for two runs on three hits with one strikeout.
- Stephenson homered, drove in three runs and added a walk in a 1-for-4 day at the plate.
Parker Haskin finished 2-for-5 with a run scored and
Samuel Frontino hit 1-for-2 with a run, an RBI and two walks.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
- ECU is coming off a 2-1 series win over American Athletic Conference (AAC) foe Wichita State this past weekend in Greenville, N.C.
- The Pirates (18-15, 4-2 AAC) edged the Shockers 6-5 in Friday's series opener and followed with a 10-3 decision on Saturday to secure the series victory. Wichita State was able to avoid the sweep with a 5-0 final on Sunday.
- ECU is 3-2 when playing CAA teams this season. The Pirates lost a weekend series at Charleston two games to one on March 18-20 and earned a 3-1 win at UNCW on March 22.
- Lane Hoover leads ECU's starters with a .355 batting average. Following him are Jacon Jenkins-Cowart (.337), Alex Makarewicz (.302) and Zach Agnos (.301).
- Makarewicz and Hoover have scored 29 and 28 runs, respectively. Jenkins-Cowart has driven in 28 runs, Makarewicz is close behind him with 26 RBIs, and both have hit six home runs to lead the team. Hoover has also swiped a team-best seven bases on 12 attempts.
- The Pirates are hitting .267 as a team with a .396 slugging percentage and a .346 on-base percentage.
- Freshman Jaden Winter is expected to get the start.
- ECU's arms own a combined 4.46 ERA with opposing teams batting .258.
- Through games played on April 10, the Pirates are seventh in the country in fielding percentage (.983) and sacrifice bunts (26) and are 20th in sacrifice flies (18).
- Garrett Saylor ranks fifth nationally with 19 pitching appearances while C.J. Mayhue and Carter Spivey are both 10th with 18 appearances each. Jake Kuchmaner is also 19th in games started (8).
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
- Elon played a CAA series at Northeastern this past weekend, dropped two of three games to the Huskies.
- Northeastern took the series opener 7-3 on Friday. Bad weather on Saturday forced a doubleheader on Sunday with both sides securing 1-0 victories.
- The Phoenix is currently eighth in the CAA standings following the first three weekends of conference play.
- Alex Iadisernia leads Elon at the plate with a .345 clip. Also hitting over .300 are Charlie Granatell (.306) and Connor Coolahan (.302).
- Iadisernia also leads the Phoenix in hits (39), doubles (10), triples (3), RBIs (31) and total bases (67). He and Coolahan have both scored 20 runs and walked 20 times.
- Elon is batting .233 with a .361 slugging percentage and a .351 on-base percentage.
- Tuesday's starting pitcher has not been decided.
- The Phoenix owns a combined 4.02 ERA with other teams batting .282.
- Elon enters Tuesday's game ranked third in walks allowed per nine innings (2.35), fifth in double plays (33), seventh in double plays per game (1.06) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (3.60), 14th in sacrifice bunts (22) and 20th in sacrifice flies (18).
- Shea Sprague ranks fourth in the nation in earned run average (0.85), fifth in WHIP (0.76) and 10th in hits allowed per nine innings (4.83). Iadisernia is 11th in sac flies (5), Carlos Marte ranks 13th in sac bunts per game (0.25) and 17th in sac bunts (6), Coolahan is 18th in on-base percentage (.516) and Brian Edgington is 19th in games started (8).
SPRAGUE EARNS SECOND STRAIGHT CAA WEEKLY HONOR
- Sprague was named the CAA's Co-Rookie of the Week earlier today.
- It marked his second career weekly honor after being selected CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week last Monday, April 4.
- Sprague improved to 3-0 on the season after tossing seven scoreless frames in Game Two of Sunday's doubleheader at Northeastern, helping the Phoenix to a 1-0 win. The true freshman from Hanover, Mass. held the Huskies to a single with two walks.
- The seven innings pitched marked a new season best and he was just shy of tying his season high in strikeouts with five.
- The outing lowered his season ERA to a 0.85, which leads the CAA, and the win was his third in as many starts.
- Sprague retired 10 consecutive batters, did not allow a Northeastern baserunner to reach third base and had just one runner reach second.
- Sprague and Edgington both landed on D1 Baseball's Top Performers List following their outings on Sunday. Edgington (4-2) tossed eight scoreless innings in the first game of the doubleheader, but was responsible for the deciding run in the ninth. The Hatboro, Pa. native held the hosts to just two hits, did not walk anyone and recorded eight strikeouts.
- He hasn't given up a run since a March 5 game versus Toledo.
UP NEXT
Elon welcomes UNC Asheville to Latham Park this weekend for a non-conference series. The teams will play a 5 p.m. game on Friday, then a doubleheader on Saturday starting at noon.
