Phoenix Drops Midweek Game to East Carolina

ELON, N.C. – Elon University baseball suffered a 7-1 setback to East Carolina on Tuesday, April 12 at Latham Park. With the loss, the Phoenix falls to 15-17 on the season.

ON THE MOUND
Starter Liam Dabagian fell to 1-1 after giving up two runs on five hits. The left hander from Media, Pa. did not walk anyone and struck out three in 1.2 innings pitched. Ben Sieracki was tagged for two runs on three hits and one walk, adding one strikeout through 0.2 innings in relief. Cam Seguin recorded two punch outs and surrendered one run on one hit, and Kyle Greenler allowed two unearned runs one one hit and one walk with two strikeouts. Trevor Kirk, Jake Nolan, Ben Simon and Joe Savino also came out of the pen.

AT THE PLATE
Griffin Arnone led the Phoenix as he doubled and walked once in a 3-for-3 outing. Will Vergantino went 1-for-1, Carlos Marte hit 1-for-3, Connor Offshack batted 1-for-4 with a run scored and Luke Stephenson also finished 1-for-4.

THE RUNDOWN
The Pirates (19-15) opened the scoring in the top of the second as a one-out single through the right side brought in a runner from second. The visitors then made it 2-0 as a runner scored from third on a single to short. ECU plated another two runs on three hits in its next turn at the plate. After back-to-back hits to center field and a sacrifice bunt put runners on second and third, ECU's Bryson Worrell drew a walk to load the bases. Josh Moylan then hit an RBI single through the right side and Ben Newton pushed the lead to 4-0 with a sacrifice fly to left.

Elon responded with one run in the home half of the third. Offshack led off the frame with a hit to left and moved up to third on Arnone's double to left. Charlie Granatell earned a base on balls to load the bases with no outs. An Alex Iadisernia sac fly to right plated Offshack, but that was all the Phoenix could muster as Stephenson went down looking.

ECU pushed three more runs across in the top of the sixth. Moylan tripled to center field and crossed the plate on a Zach Agnos single through the left side. Jacob Starling reached on a two-out walk and the Pirates pulled off a doubled steal. A fielding error by Alex Duffey then allowed both runners to come home on the play.
