Elon Travels To Harrisonburg, Va. For Saturday Morning Matchup With JMU

ELON, N.C. – Elon University women's tennis returns to action on Saturday, April 9, when it travels to Harrisonburg, Va. for an 11 a.m. matchup with James Madison at Hillside Courts.
 
GAMEDAY COVERAGE
- Saturday's action will begin with doubles play at 11 a.m. with singles to follow shortly after.

THE MATCHUP
- Saturday morning marks the ninth meeting between Elon and James Madison.
- The all-time series is currently tied 4-4.
- In the most recent meeting between the two programs, Elon fell to JMU, 6-1, on March 27, 2021 at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- The Phoenix's most recent win against the Dukes came on March 7, 2020 when it outlasted JMU 4-3.

SCOUTING ELON
- The Phoenix enters the contest with a 13-6 record after sweeping Bluefield State, 7-0 and 5-0 respectively, in a doubleheader in its most recent outing.
- Olivia Archer is leading the way for Elon, as the junior has racked up a team-high 13 wins this season and has won 11 of her last 13 matches. The senior also holds a perfect 4-0 mark in the No. 4 position this season.
- Julie Ball ranks second on the team in singles play, as she holds a 12-4 overall record and a 10-4 mark in the No. 4 slot this season. Ball has won six consecutive matches and 12 of her last 14 overall.
- Lizette Reding and Sibel Tanik are tied for third on the team in singles wins picking up nine wins apiece. Reding currently sits at 2-0 in No. 1 singles, 6-3 in No. 2 singles and has won three-straight matches. Tanik holds a 9-5 mark in No. 1 singles and extended her winning streak to four after winning both of her matches last weekend.
- Shauna Galvin moved up to fourth in singles wins, remaining undefeated and moving to a perfect 7-0 with her wins last weekend. Galvin has won six of her seven matches in straight sets, is 3-0 in the No. 5 position and 4-0 in the No. 6 spot this season.
- Alison O'Dea and Victoria Saldh sit in a tie for fifth in singles play, each compiling six wins so far this year. O'Dea has at least one win in No. 3, No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles, while Saldh has won two of her last three outings.
- Sarah Allen remains undefeated in singles play, as she holds a perfect 2-0 mark overall and in the No. 6 slot this season.
- The tandem of Olivia Archer and Alison O'Dea is leading the way for the Phoenix in doubles play, as the pair holds a team-best 10-5 mark and has won 10 of its last 12 matches.
- The combination of Sibel Tanik and Lizette Reding is tied for first on the team in doubles wins, as the duo has won 10 matches this season. The combo has now won three consecutive matches and five of its last six outings overall.
- Julie Ball and Victoria Saldh currently rank third on the team in doubles wins with nine. The tandem sits at 1-0 in the No. 1 doubles position and has won three straight matches.
- Olivia Archer and Alison O'Dea were named the CAA Doubles Team of the Week on March 2, after winning all three of their matches last week against North Carolina A&T, Methodist and Pfeiffer respectively.
- On Wednesday, Feb. 2, the CAA announced that junior Sibel Tanik was named its Player of the Week. It was the first honor of the season for the Phoenix and was the first Player of the Week award of Tanik's career.
- Four All-CAA selections return for the Phoenix in 2021-22 in Sibel Tanik (1st Team), Lizette Reding (Rookie of the Year; 2nd Team Singles; 3rd Team Doubles), Victoria Saldh (3rd Team Singles), and Alison O'Dea (3rd Team Doubles).
- Other returners for the Phoenix include Arthur Ashe Leadership & Sport Excellence Award recipient, Olivia Archer, and junior Shauna Galvin.
- The Phoenix is led by Elizabeth Anderson, who will begin her 18th season at the helm of the program in 2021-22.
 
SCOUTING JAMES MADISON
- JMU enters Saturday's contest with an 8-10 overall record after falling to Clemson, 4-3, in its most recent outing.
- The Dukes are led by Shelley Jaudon who is in her fourth season at the helm of the program. Jaudon has lead JMU to two CAA Championship titles in 2019 and 2021, winning Coach of the Year in both seasons.
- Kylie Moulin is leading the way for JMU on the court, posting a 10-2 dual match record so far this season. Moulin has competed primarily in the No. 2 spot, where she holds a 7-1 mark.
- The combination of Moulin and Amanda Nord hold the top mark for the Dukes in doubles play, posting a 4-1 record overall and in the No. 3 slot.

LAST TIME OUT
- Elon extended its winning streak to four on Friday, April 1, defeating Bluefield State, 7-0 and 5-0 respectively, in a doubleheader at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- Julie Ball got the ball rolling in singles play for Elon in both matches, making quick work Juliana Jimenez 6-0, 6-2 in the No. 3 slot and Paula Saez 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 position.
- Sibel Tanik won both of her matches this afternoon, finishing Shreya Chakrabarly 6-0, 6-4 before clinching the second match of the doubleheader with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Virginia Zanotti in No. 1 singles.
- Shauna Galvin clinched the first match for the Phoenix, defeating Ghita Courdi 6-1, 6-1 in No. 5 singles before sweeping Victoria Cabral 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 6 slot in match two.
- Olivia Archer continued her strong play this season, taking down Paula Saez 6-0, 6-1 in No. 4 singles to open the day prior to beating Ghita Courdi 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 5 position.
- Lizette Reding gave Elon a 2-0 lead in the second match, sweeping Shreya Chakrabarly 6-0, 6-0 in straight sets at No. 2.
- Sarah Allen picked up her second career win on Friday, making quick work of Victoria Cabral 6-0, 6-1 in No. 6 singles.
- Victoria Saldh earned her sixth win on the season, outlasting Virginia Zanotti 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot.
- The combination of Ball and Saldh clinched the doubles point for Elon to open the day, defeating Saez and Zanotti 6-0 in the No. 2 position.
- The tandem of Tanik and Reding got the ball rolling in doubles play, sweeping Chakrabarly and Jimenez 6-0 in the No. 1 spot.
- Archer and Allen rounded out the doubles victories for the Phoenix, taking down Courdi and Cabral 6-2 in No. 3 doubles.

THE FACES OF 2021-22
- The Phoenix welcomes back six returners from last year's squad in seniors Olivia Archer and Victoria Saldh, juniors Shauna Galvin and Sibel Tanik, and sophomores Lizette Reding and Alison O'Dea.
- Elon will feature two newcomers this season in first-year Sarah Allen and Tennessee transfer Julie Ball.
- Allen joins the Phoenix from Christ Church Episcopal School, where she was a five-time team State Champion from 2016-2020 and earned four top-5 finishes at the All-State Singles Championships in 2017 (5th), 2018 (4th), 2019 (4th) and 2020 (2nd).
- Ball comes to Elon from the University of Tennessee where she earned Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll honors in 2020.
 
COMING SOON
- Elon returns to action on April 13, when it travels to Greensboro, N.C. for a matchup with UNC Greensboro.
- The Phoenix will be back at home on Saturday, April 16, when it hosts East Carolina on Senior Day at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
- Elon rounds out the regular season on Saturday, April 23, when it travels to Williamsburg, Va. for a matchup with William & Mary.
