RICHMOND, Va. – After helping the Elon University women's track and field team to its second straight Colonial Athletic Association outdoor championship, redshirt sophomore
Leandra Lorenz and Phoenix's Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Mark Elliston were honored as the league's Female Track Athlete and Women's Coach of the Year, respectively, on Tuesday, June 21.
Lorenz won a pair of league event titles at the CAA Outdoor Championships as the Kleinmachnow, Germany, native won gold in the 1,500 and 5,000-meters, setting a new personal-record in the latter race with a time of 16:37.68. For her performance, she was named the Most Outstanding Performer at the CAA Championships as the Phoenix successfully defended its league title. She would later qualify and represent the Phoenix at the NCAA East Prelims in the 1,500-meters.
Elliston was voted as the CAA Women's Coach of the Year for the second straight year and for the fourth time overall. This is also his sixth Coach of the Year accolade overall in his 16 seasons at Elon. Elliston helped lead the Phoenix to its second straight CAA outdoor championship and the fourth overall in the past eight seasons after scoring its highest point total ever at the league meet with 195 points. The maroon and gold had six total event champions and claimed 17 All-CAA performances.
