School Records Under Fire
Elon may have competed just twice so far in 2022-23, but numerous school records are in danger of falling.
Reese Webster tied teammate
Meghan Wilcox's school record in the 60 with a time of 7.64 seconds Saturday at the Mondo College Invitational. Wilcox is set to run the 60 this weekend at Liberty.
In the 200,
Piper Jons posted the ninth-fastest time in program history with a 25.28 race Saturday at the Mondo College Invitational. She is scheduled to run the distance again Saturday, along with Wilcox, who posted the fifth-fastest time in school history in 2022 at 25.09.
True freshman
Hannah Schonhoff has already made her mark as she leaped 5-feet-6.5 (1.69m) in the high jump during December's meet in Winston-Salem. That puts her third in program history.
In the triple jump,
Linn Hertz Saebboe moved into fifth place in program history Saturday with a distance of 38-8.25 (11.79m).
Graduate transfer
Kalli'Ana Botelho made an immediate impact in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.86 seconds in the December meet at JDL Fast Track. That places her fifth in program history. Botelho also moved into tenth in school history in the long jump as she leaped 18-feet-1 (5.51m) this past weekend.
Still Unbeaten
Piper Jons has run the 400 twice during the 2022-23 season and is yet to be defeated on the track. In the season opener in December, she ran 56.47 seconds to get the victory. She followed that up with a time of 56.63 seconds Saturday to again outpace the field.
Jons also won the 200 in her first time competing in the event Saturday, posting a time of 25.28 seconds.
Reese Webster has also been spotless in the 60, winning her prelim heat and posting the top prelim time at Saturday's Mondo College Invitational in 7.64 seconds. She did not compete in the finals.
Linn Hertz Saebboe is unbeaten in the triple jump in 2023, posting a distance of 38-feet-8.25 (11.79m) at the Mondo College Invitational.
Elon's 1600 relay team ran 3:58.71 Saturday at the Mondo College Invitational to finish first.
The Men Are Ready To Go Too
While Elon does not officially have a men's track and field program, the Phoenix men's cross country team will compete in some track & field meets. Daniel King, Tamer Metwalli, George Linney and Ramy Ghandour will make their 2023 debuts this Saturday. The group is scheduled to compete in both the 1,000 and the mile. King, a sophomore, and Metwalli, a senior, ran at the CAA Championships in the fall, helping Elon to a sixth place finish, while Linney and Ghandour were both freshmen within the program.

CAA To Sponsor Indoor Championship
As membership has changed within the Colonial Athletic Association, the CAA will now hold an indoor track & field championship Feb. 22-23 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va. It will mark the first time the Elon program has had the opportunity to compete for an indoor conference championship since leaving the Southern Conference following the 2013-14 school year. Elon will also continue to compete for an ECAC indoor championship, scheduled to take place March 3-5 and hosted by Boston University. The Phoenix placed third at the ECAC Championships in 2022, scoring 49 points and trailing only UConn and Northeastern among the 39 scoring teams.

Mark Elliston was named the CAA Women's Coach of the Year for the second straight year and for the fourth time overall in 2022. It was his sixth Coach of the Year accolade over 16 seasons at Elon.
Elon Also Excels Academically
The Elon track & field team was honored as a 2021-22 CAA Academic Excellence Award recipient, which recognizes the team within each sport of the CAA with the highest collective grade point average. Along with that incredible honor, Elon was recognized by The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) as an all-academic team.

Kaitlin McGoogan were recognized for maintaining a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.25 as well as qualifying for the NCAA East Region Preliminary.
Global Impact
Over Thanksgiving Break 2022, the Elon women's track & field and cross country team spent a week in Greece as part of Elon's commitment to diversity and global engagement.
