Elon Closes Weekend At Brant Tolsma Invitational

Lynchburg, Va. – The Elon University indoor track and field team concluded its weekend Saturday at the Brant Tolsma Invitational, winning one event and earning 20 top 10 finishes. Among the notable performances, Stephanie Lair won the 800, Jette Beermann impressed in the middle distances, and Piper Jons continued her impressive start in the 400.

CHART TOPPERS
  • Stephanie Lair was Elon's lone individual winner on the day, posting a time of 2:14.61 to come home victorious in the 800. Entering the weekend, only one runner in the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) had topped that time in the distance.
  • Piper Jons remained unbeaten against collegiate runners in the 400 this season, posting a strong time of 56.51 seconds.
  • Jette Beermann earned the bronze in both the 1000 and the mile Saturday. She ran 2:57.27 in the shorter distance, a time that places her sixth in program history. In the mile, she ran 4:59.74. Entering the weekend, only one other CAA runner had broken the five-minute mark in the mile this year.
 
NOTABLE MARKS
  • Lauryn Carlton recorded a season-best mark in the shot put with a toss of 43-feet-1 (13.13m). Tristin Oberg added a PR in the shot put at 34-10.25 (10.62m).
  • Pole vaulter Madison George had a season-high clearance of 11-11.75 (3.65m). That height would put her second in the CAA entering the weekend.
  • Lizzie Lopez tied her personal best height in the high jump at 5-3.75 (1.62m). She finished fourth but had the same cleared height as teammate Hannah Schonhoff, who tied for second.
  • Along with Beermann's impressive 800 time, Emily Alps posted a personal best time of 2:18.61. Arianna Sakoutis had an indoor personal best of 2:18.95, as did Alison Hodgson at 2:19.10.
  • In the 1000, Beermann was not the only individual to record a strong time. Hannah Miller had a PR in 3:00.81 and Sarah Petitjean did as well in 3:06.45.
  • Danielle Dyer had a season-best time of 8.33 seconds in the 60.
  • Ja'mia Johnson recorded a personal best time of 9.12 seconds in the 60 hurdles.
  • Aliya Barrows had a season-best time of 58.85 seconds in the 400.
 
THE MEN ALSO IN ACTION
  • Elon's men's cross country team sent four runners to the Brant Tolsma Invitational for spring work. They all ran both the 1000 and the mile.
  • Daniel King led the way in both events, finishing third in the 1000 in 2:37.37 and 22nd in the mile with a time of 4:25.04.
 
UP NEXT
  • Elon will compete at Clemson's Bob Pollock Invitational Friday and Saturday before returning to North Carolina to compete in the Camel City Invitational, at JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, Feb. 3-4.
