ELON, N.C. – Senior Sibel Tanik and freshman Mariana Reding each posted a doubles win and a pair of singles triumphs Friday at the Jimmy Powell Invitational. Elon is hosting the event at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
 
Tanik started off the morning with a doubles win alongside partner Lizette Reding, as the pair won 6-3 against Linge Steenkamp and Ari Siegel of UNC Asheville. Tanik then went 2-0 in singles, first beating Angelina Joy Hug of UNC Asheville 7-6 (5), 6-0 before earning a 6-2, 2-6, 10-8 victory against Connecticut's Olivia Wright. 
 
Mariana Reding paired up with fellow freshman Simone Bergeron for a 6-4 victory in doubles against Hug and Rosie Dickson from UNC Asheville. Reding was the only Elon player to go 4-0 in singles sets on the day, as the freshman defeated Valeria Centeno of UNC Asheville 6-1, 6-2 and Connecticut's Aleksandra Karamyshev 6-2, 6-2. 
 
Miray Konar also went 2-0 in singles on Friday. The junior defeated UNC Asheville's Ari Siegel 6-4, 6-4 before battling back to beat Cameron Didion of Connecticut 1-6, 7-6 (6), 10-5. 
 
All seven players who played singles Friday won at least one match, as Bergeron, Helen Sarikulaya, Ella Suk and Lizette Reding all had one victory. Overall, Elon went 10-4 in singles on the day. 
 
The tournament will conclude Saturday with two rounds of doubles and a round of singles. Play is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
