Phoenix Set for NCAA Southeast Cross Country Regional

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's and women's cross country teams are set to compete at the 2023 NCAA Southeast Regional Championships this Friday, Nov. 10 in Spartanburg, S.C., at the Roger Milliken Center course.
 
The women's 6K is set for 11 a.m., while the men's 10K begins at noon. In total, 42 teams will be participating with the goal of qualifying for the NCAA Cross Country Championships.

MEET INFORMATION
Date: Friday, November 10
Location: Roger Milliken Center, Spartanburg, S.C.
Time: Women's 6k - 11 a.m. • Men's 10k – 12 p.m.
Elon Men Competing: Braden Anthes, Daniel King, Joe Lavelle, Nate Mars, Colby Robbins, Caden Strickland and Evan Taylor.
Elon Women Competing: Jette Beermann, Abby Beville, Kate Buerger, Hattie Reynolds, Maggie Springer, Madison Synowiec, Anna Twomey.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• The Elon women made history by capturing its fifth straight CAA Cross Country championship on Oct. 27 at the league championships. The Phoenix became the first team in the CAA to win five straight CAA titles since William & Mary did so from 2012-2018.
• The Phoenix women scored 36 points in the 6K race, finishing ahead of second-place Stony Brook, who had 55 points. Five members of the maroon and gold finished in the top-12 of the race to earn All-CAA honors including three in the top seven.
Jette Beermann and Leandra Lorenz each garnered top-four finishes to lead the Phoenix. Beermann ran a time of 21:11.00 to finish third overall while Lorenz was next with a time of 21:16.60 in fourth.
• Sophomore Katie Blount earned a top-seven finish as the Atlanta, Ga., native posted a time of 21:21.30. Maggie Springer was next for the Phoenix with her time of 21:33.20 to finish tenth overall.
• Freshman Hattie Reynolds rounded out the top-five finishers for the Phoenix as the rookie had a time of 21:44.50 in 12th to earn All-CAA accolades.
• In the men's 8K run, Elon was sixth overall with 162 points. Sophomore Evan Taylor was the Phoenix's top runner for the men as he came across the line with a time of 25:09.70 and was 18th overall.
• Junior Daniel King was next up for the Phoenix with his time of 25:51.70 in 30th while Nate Mars was 32nd with his time of 26:09.60.
 
2022 NCAA REGIONALS RECAP
• Both teams will look to build off a pair of top-20 finishes at last year's NCAA Southeast Regional, which was held in Louisville, Ky.
• The Elon women earned its highest team finish since 2015 at the regional meet as the Phoenix was seventh overall after scoring 210 points in the 32-team field. Anna Twomey set a new personal-best in the race as the Berwyn, Pa., native crossed the line with a time of 20:57.1. She finished as the top runner for Elon in 30th overall – just five spots from earning All-Region honors.
• In the men's 10K run, Elon was 20th out of the 32-team field, its best team finish since 2018. The Phoenix accounted for 592 points in the race. Andrew Miller led the Phoenix after posting a time of 32:02.6 at the race and was 100th overall. Zane Jackson followed with his time of 32:16.6 – breaking into the program's top-10 performance list.
 
UP NEXT
The top two teams and the first four finishers in the race not associated with those two teams will advance to the NCAA Championships on Nov. 18 in Charlottesville, Va.
