ELON, N.C. – The Elon University volleyball team and head coach
Mary Tendler announced the addition of two more players to the program on Monday.
Casey Brower (Greenwich Academy/Greenwich, CT) and Kayla Palmer (Lansing High School/Ithaca, NY) will join the Phoenix beginning in 2024.
"We are excited to welcome two more student-athletes and their families to Elon University and our volleyball program! Casey and Kayla both come from athletic families and know what it takes to win at the highest level. Academically, Elon is a great fit for them as they are looking to be challenged and achieve success in all aspects of their life."
Casey Brower • Greenwich, Conn. • Greenwich Academy • Defensive Specialist/Libero • 5-7
A two-year team captain at Greenwich Academy, Brower was named to the 2023 All-NEPSAC team following this year's season. A three-year Fairchester Athletic Association First Team All-League selection under head coach Bryan Coloma and Christy Girard, Brower also received the Greenwich Academy Volleyball MVP award in 2022. Brower played club ball for Greenwich Volleyball Club (2019-22) and Northeast Volleyball Club (2023-24). At Greenwich, Brower served as a captain all three years, while earning the team's MVP award every year. She was named one of the 2020-21 Tri-State All-League Player before heading to Northeast Volleyball Club where the team qualified for GJNC Nationals. Brower's parents both competed at the collegiate level at Penn State, where her father played ice hockey and her mother played field hockey. Her sister currently plays field hockey at Quinnipiac University.
"Casey is a dynamic player who is aggressive and fun to watch. She makes quick reactions and can cover a lot of space on the court defensively. Her serve has a lot of movement on it, which will enable her to get on scoring runs. Casey's athleticism combined with her work ethic with have positive effects on our team."
Kayla Palmer • Ithaca, N.Y. • Lansing High School • Setter • 5-7
Palmer, who was a three-year captain at Lansing High School, helped her team win three straight sectional championships from 2021-23. Additionally, she helped her team win back-to-back IAC League titles in 2021 and 2022 while being named the IAC MVP both years. In 2018, Palmer was named a 2nd team IAC All-Star followed by two straight IAC First Team selections in 2019 and 2020. In 2022, Palmer was also named the NYS Volleyball Coaches Association Section IV Player of the Year and the ESPN Ithaca Volleyball Athlete of the Year. Palmer played club ball at VolleyFX where she was added to the AVCA Phenom list from 2020-22 and appeared on the JVA 2024 Watch List. Palmer's father was an accomplished professional squash player winning two world championships and was ranked the World's No. 1 squash player on two separate occasions.
"Kayla brings natural leadership skills to the setter position. When you watch her play, you can see her teammates listen and respond to her. She makes good choices in her set selection and anticipates well defensively. It is hard to jump into the setter position as a first-year player, but there is no doubt that Kayla has what it takes to make an impact right away."
