Caleb Curtain has been named an AFCA Second Team All-American. The redshirt sophomore earned his fourth All-American nod this month and also announced today that he would be removing his name from the transfer portal and returning to Elon for the 2024 season.
Curtain's AFCA All-American recognition is the latest honor for the dynamic safety from Greensboro, N.C. He has also been named an All-American by the Associated Press, Phil Steele and Stats Perform. He is the third Elon student-athlete in Head Coach
Tony Trisciani's five-year tenure to be honored by the AFCA, along with
Skyler Davis a year ago and Greg Liggs Jr. in 2019. In total, he is one of six Elon players to earn AFCA All-American status at the FCS level.
Curtain led Elon with 80 tackles during the 2023 season, recording 6.5 for loss and 4.5 sacks. He also had a team-best four interceptions to go with six pass break-ups and two fumble recoveries. He opened the season with a 50-yard interception return for a touchdown against Wake Forest and had at least 10 tackles in three games. He had a career-best 12 stops at Villanova.
Curtain posted interceptions against North Carolina A&T, Monmouth and Richmond as well as the Wake Forest game. He recovered fumbles in back-to-back contests against Villanova and Monmouth. Curtain had at least four tackles in every game in 2023.
