Lauryn Carlton, an Elon native, broke the school record in the weight throw as the Elon indoor track & field team posted strong results during day one of Liberty's Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational.

CARLTON BREAKS THE SCHOOL RECORD IN WEIGHT THROW
- Lauryn Carlton threw at least 17 meters in each of her first three tosses, qualifying for finals with a 17.75m throw on her third attempt. On her second throw of finals, she launched the school record toss and finished third overall out of 40 competitors.
- Carlton's previous career-best mark was 58-9.25 (17.91m), a distance that already had her second in program history, behind teammate Kaitlin McGoogan. McGoogan has thrown as far as 60-7.25 (18.47m).
- The mark currently ranks Carlton third in the CAA, as she leaps up from seventh heading into the weekend.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Elon excelled in the 3000 Friday with three personal bests, all of which rank among the top 10 in program history. Jette Beermann ran 9:35.60, which is third in school history and less than one second shy of the school record. Anna Twomey ran 9:41.60 to vault into fifth in program history and Hannah Miller ran 9:45.18, eighth in school history. Beermann currently sits third in the CAA and Twomey sixth.
- In the 800, Elon saw three more personal bests fall. Alison Hodgson was the top Phoenix finisher in 2:13.17, setting a new personal best and ranking sixth in school history. Emily Alps ran 2:17.71 for a personal best and Aliya Barrows did the same in 2:18.65.
- Madison George posted a season-best clearance of 12-feet-10 (3.91m) in the pole vault. That mark ranks her first in the CAA this year.
- Meghan Wilcox ran a strong 7.63 seconds in the semifinals of the 60, qualifying for Saturday's finals.
- In the 60 prelims, Danielle Dyer posted a season-best time of 8.19 seconds and George had a personal best time of 8.37 seconds.
- Tristin Oberg posted a new PR in the weight throw with a mark of 41-5 (12.62m).
UP NEXT
- Elon returns to action Saturday for day two of the Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational. Elon begins at 10:30 a.m. with high jump, shot put and triple jump. The meet concludes with the mile at 4:00 p.m.
