Piper Jons Breaks School Record As Elon Concludes Weekend At Liberty

Lynchburg, Va. – Piper Jons broke her own school record in the 300 and Elon recorded five top five finishes on the final day of Liberty's Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational Saturday. The Phoenix had no fewer than 11 season bests or personal bests during the day.

PIPER'S SCHOOL RECORD
  • Piper Jons brought home the gold in the non-traditional 300 Saturday, winning the race with a school record time of 39.34 seconds.
  • Jons held the previous school record, running 39.42 seconds a year ago. She is the only Elon runner to ever break 40 seconds in the distance.
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Elon ran in another non-traditional distance, the 500, placing three runners among the top 10 in program history. Aliya Barrows ran 1:15.44 to move into third in program history at that distance. Stephanie Lair ran 1:15.51 for fourth in school history and Anna Kozlova posted a time of 1:17.95 for seventh.
  • A day after breaking the school record in the weight throw, Lauryn Carlton set a new personal best in the shot put with a distance of 45-feet-10.75 (13.99m). That mark is fourth in school history and places her seventh in the CAA currently.
  • Jette Beermann ran a second-best 4:51.25 in the mile, fourth-fastest in the CAA this year. Anna Twomey followed in 4:52.25 to move to fifth in school history and fifth in the CAA.
  • The 1600 relay team of Meghan Wilcox, Barrows, Riley Drometer and Jons ran 3:47.92 to place third at the meet and post the fourth-fastest time in school history.
  • In the 1000, Alison Hodgson recorded a time of 2:56.41 to finish third. That time is fifth in program history.
  • Reese Webster ran the 200 in a personal-best 24.92 seconds to move into sixth in program history in the event. Jons finished in 24.66 seconds and Wilcox in 24.88 seconds.
  • Kalli'Ana Botelho also moved into the top 10 in school history in the 200 with a season-best time of 24.97 seconds. That is seventh in Elon's program history.
  • In the 1000, Sarah Petitjean ran a personal best 3:04.31.
  • Julia Bell set a new personal best in the mile at 5:19.41.
  • Chelsea Wallace had a season-best throw in the shot put at 40-11.75 (12.49m).
 
UP NEXT
  • Elon will run in the JDL DMR Invitational Friday and Saturday in Winston-Salem. It is the final tune-up for the team before the first CAA Indoor Championship takes place Feb. 21-23 in Virginia Beach, Va.
