Virginia Beach, Va. – The Elon University track & field team scored 38.5 points and sits in second place after day one of the CAA Indoor Track & Field Championships. The Phoenix got at least one runner through to Thursday's finals in all events that had a preliminary round.
Most notably,
Piper Jons broke the school record in the 200 prelims, running 24.23 seconds to head into finals as the No. 2 seed.
FULL DAY ONE RESULTS
TEAM SCORES
- Northeastern leads after the opening day with 57 points and Elon sits second with 38.5. Delaware and Hampton have 28 and 26 points respectively.
- College of Charleston is currently in fifth with 18.5 points, followed by William & Mary (16), Stony Brook (14), Towson (13) and UNCW (13). Monmouth is 10th with eight points and North Carolina A&T is last with two points.
SCORING EVENTS
- Six events were scored on Wednesday and Elon posted a top five finish in all of them.
- Kalli'Ana Botelho earned bronze in the pentathlon with a personal best 3,528 points. She recorded a season-best in the 60 hurdles and personal best in shot put. Botelho was followed by Hollie Thurgood in seventh place with 3,168 points – fourth-best in school history. Lizzie Lopez ended with 3,074 points, sixth-most in program history.
- In the 5000, Maggie Springer ran 17:01.12 to finish fourth, while Katie Blount posted a time of 17:04.19 for fifth place finish. Blount's PR moves her to seventh in program history. Madison Synowiec ran 17:13.96 to break into Elon's top 10 at No. 9.
- Elon also saw two point scorers in weight throw. Lauryn Carlton threw 60-feet-3.75 (18.38m) to finish fifth and teammate Kaitlin McGoogan was right behind in sixth at 60-1.75 (18.33m). Chelsea Wallace ended 14th but had a season-best mark of 53-10.5 (16.42m), which jumps her to sixth in program history.
- Linn Hertz Saebboe ended fourth in the long jump with a personal best distance of 19-1.5 (5.83m). That distance is third in school history.
- In the pole vault, Madison George tied for fourth place as she cleared a height of 11-9.75 (3.60m).
- In the final event of the night, the distance medley relay, Elon's team of Sarah Petitjean, Riley Drometer, Aliya Barrows and Jasmine Young finished fourth in 12:06.86.
QUALIFYING EVENTS
- Piper Jons qualified for finals in both the 200 and 400. She was second in the 200 with a school record time of 24.23 seconds and first in the 400 at 54.83 seconds.
- Also in the 400, Riley Drometer ran a personal best time of 56.75 seconds, eighth-best in school history. Anna Kozlova had a PR time of 58.76 seconds.
- In the mile, Elon qualified five runners for the 12-woman final Thursday. Jette Beermann (No. 2 at 5:02.08), Anna Twomey (No. 4 at 5:02.13), Leandra Lorenz (No. 5 at 4:56.44), Hannah Miller (No. 7 at 4:56.52) and Jasmine Young (No. 11 at 5:06.57) will all run for points Thursday. Lorenz set a personal best and moved to No. 10 in program history, while Miller also set a personal best time.
- In the 800, Alison Hodgson was third at 2:13.38 and Stephanie Lair fifth with a time of 2:12.29. Both will run in finals Thursday.
- Both Reese Webster and Meghan Wilcox qualified for finals in the 60 after running times of 7.66 and 7.61 respectively. Those two rank 1-2 in program history in the event.
- In the 60 hurdles, Kalli'Ana Botelho qualified for finals with a time of 8.80 seconds. Ja'mia Johnson set a new personal best time of 8.99 and just missed finals. Johnson's time is tied for seventh in program history.

- Elon begins day two of the CAA Indoor Track & Field Championships at 10 a.m. Thursday with high jump. Along with finals of the running events, Elon will take part in shot put, triple jump, the 3000, the 3200 relay and the 1600 relay. The 1600 relay concludes the meet at 3:15 p.m. Thursday.
