Richmond, Va. – Elon Director of Track and Field and Cross Country
Mark Elliston was named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Women's Indoor Track & Field Coach of the Year, as announced Thursday.
Elliston led Elon to the inaugural CAA Indoor Track & Field Championship, overcoming an early deficit to hold off a late charge for the championship. Elon's 129.83 team points overwhelmed Hampton (121.33 points) and Northeastern (93 points) for the league crown. Elliston's squad only won one individual CAA Championship but the depth of the team produced point scorers in all 18 events.
While this is Elliston's first indoor track & field Coach of the Year honor, he is the two-time defending CAA Outdoor Track & Field Coach of the Year and has earned that award four times in his career. Over the course of his 17-year career at Elon, he has earned league coach of the year honors seven times. Since 2019, Elliston's squads have won seven conference championshps (four in women's cross country, two in outdoor track & field and the 2023 indoor track & field championship).
One of the most respected names in the track & field community, Elliston has been a head coach at the NCAA Division I and II levels for 34 years. He has led student-athletes at Elon to more than 200 all-conference performances and 59 individual conference championships.
