High Point, N.C. – The Elon University outdoor track & field team battled gusting winds to break one school record and post impressive performances on the final day of High Point's VertKlasse Meeting Saturday. The 400 relay team broke the school record for the second consecutive weekend with a time that leads the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) by more than a full second.
 
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES

• A week ago, Elon's 400 relay team of Meghan Wilcox, Kalli'Ana Botelho, Piper Jons and Reese Webster broke the school record with a time of 45.82 at the Raleigh Relays. The quartet did it again Saturday, posting a meet record time of 45.26 seconds, which is more than a second faster than any other school in the CAA has run this year heading into the weekend.
• Most of Elon's sprint times were wind-aided but still legal for conference and national rankings (below +4.0 m/s), but times above +2.0 m/s are not eligible for school and all-time records.
• In the 100, both Reese Webster (11.57 seconds) and Piper Jons (11.67 seconds) ran times that would have broken Webster's school record of 11.82 seconds if not for the wind readings.
• In winning the 200, Piper Jons ran a wind-aided 23.69 that would have broken her own school record of 23.94 seconds.
• Webster did post a wind legal time of 24.19 seconds in the 200, the second-fastest in program history. Meghan Wilcox added a time of 24.69 seconds and Kalli'Ana Botelho ran 24.75 seconds.
• In the triple jump, Linn Hertz Saebboe placed fourth with a leap of 40-feet-2.75 (12.26m) that was wind-aided. That distance would have placed her fourth in program history.
• Kaitlin McGoogan finished third in the hammer throw with a distance of 190-10 (58.16m). Chelsea Wallace had a personal best distance of 169-5 (51.64m) to move to seventh in school history.
• McGoogan also finished third in discus at 161-7 (49.26m).
• Aliya Barrows set a new personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:17.13.
• Hollie Thurgood ran a wind-aided PR in the 100 hurdles at 15.98 seconds.

UP NEXT

• Elon will compete at the three-day Duke Invitational beginning Thursday.
