Elon Track & Field Rewrites Record Book At Meet Of Champions

High Point, N.C. – The Elon University track & field team broke two school records and entered the top ten leaderboard multiple times Saturday at the Meet of Champions. Freshman Reese Webster broke her own school record in the 100 and the 400 relay team of Meghan Wilcox, Kalli'Ana Botelho, Piper Jons and Reese Webster broke the school record for the third time in 2023.

Elon scored 191 points to take the team championship. High Point was second with 154 points, followed by Charlotte (130.5), George Mason (91.5), William & Mary (87), Campbell (42) and Charleston Southern (29). 
 
RECORD BREAKERS
  • In the 100, freshman Reese Webster set the school record with a time of 11.82 earlier in the year. Saturday, she shattered that mark with a time of 11.70 seconds. In fact, Meghan Wilcox added a time that would have broken the record as well, registering 11.80 seconds.
  • Webster and Wilcox combined with Kalli'Ana Botelho and Piper Jons to once again break the school record in the 400 relay. The quartet ran 45.12 to better the time of 45.26 they posted on April 1. It is currently the fastest time in the CAA this year.
 
OTHER TOP PERFORMANCES
  • Meghan Wilcox continued her sprinting excellence in the 200 Saturday. She posted a time of 24.17 seconds, second-fastest in program history.
  • Piper Jons, the record-holder in the 200, posted the second-fastest 400 time in program history at 54.02 seconds. That time ranks second in the CAA this year.
  • Freshman Hannah Schonhoff cleared 5-feet-7 (1.70m) in the high jump, tying for the second-best performance in program history. She ranks fourth in the CAA.
  • In the 400 hurdles, Riley Drometer ran 1:00.89, a new personal-best and the fourth-fastest time in school history.
  • Leandra Lorenz also moved to fourth in school history in the 800. She posted a time of 2:10.14 to finish as runner-up at the Meet of Champions.
  • Elon's 1600 relay team of Aliya Barrows, Reese Webster, Drometer and Jons ran 3:44.03 to become the fifth-fastest team in program history.
  • Kalli'Ana Botelho moved to sixth in school history in the long jump with a season-best mark of 18-7.25 (5.67m).
  • Chelsea Wallace threw the discus 149-2 (45.48m) to go to seventh in school history in the event.
  • Barrows set a new personal best in the 800 with a time of 2:14.99.
  • Maggie Springer set a PR in the 1500 at 4:32.46.
  • Sydney Swan set a pair of personal bests, doing so in the 800 (2:28.62) and in the 1500 (4:48.35).
  • Tristin Oberg recorded a personal best distance in the shot put of 38-3.25 (11.66m)
  • In the long jump, Wilcox set a new PR with a leap of 17-6 (5.33m).

UP NEXT
  • Elon will compete at the Virginia Challenge Friday and Saturday.
  • The Phoenix then closes the regular season at the Charlotte Invitational April 28-29 before the CAA Championships May 5-6.
