Richmond, Va. – Elon University redshirt junior
Kaitlin McGoogan has been named the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) Co-Field Athlete of the Week after breaking Elon's school record in the hammer throw.
Competing at the Wake Forest Invitational, McGoogan became the first woman in school history to go over 200-feet in the hammer throw, launching the implement 200-3 (61.05m). That distance leads the CAA by nearly three meters and ranks 24
th in the NCAA East Region. In addition, McGoogan posted a season-best mark of 162-11 (49.65m) in the discus, which sits second in the conference.
During McGoogan's six-throw hammer series, she actually broke the school record twice. On her second throw, she set a new standard with a toss of 196-0 (59.74m) to qualify for finals. On her fifth toss, she recorded her best mark of the day. Her final throw carried 193-0 (58.84m), making three throws that have outdistanced any other CAA competitor this year.
McGoogan's discus mark of 162-11 (49.65m) has been bettered by only two other Elon throwers in program history.
Elon will close the outdoor regular season this weekend. Some members of the team will compete at the Penn Relays, while the remainder will head to the Charlotte Invitational.
