Men’s Golf Concludes Regular Season At Stitch Intercollegiate

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Elon University men's golf team will compete in its last regular season tournament on Friday and Saturday at the Stitch Intercollegiate. N.C. State is hosting the event at the par-71, 7209-yard Lonnie Poole Golf Course in Raleigh, NC.  
 
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION 
  • Teams will play two rounds on Friday and the final round on Saturday. The first round will begin on Friday at 8:30 a.m., with a shotgun start and the second round will begin shortly after the conclusion of the first. Saturday's final round will also begin with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.  
  • The other teams competing in the tournament are Appalachian State, Boston College, Campbell, Clemson, Coastal Carolina, Davidson, Duke, Georgia State, High Point, James Madison, Maryland, NC State, North Carolina Central, Oklahoma State, Toledo, and UNCG.

ELON LINEUP 
 
FALL SEASON RECAP 
  • Elon had a strong fall season, highlighted by a win at the Phoenix Invitational and a runner-up finish at the Grandover Collegiate.  
  • After finishing 11th at the VCU Shootout on Sep. 12-13 and fourth at the JT Poston Invitational on Sep. 26-27, Elon defended its Phoenix Invitational title at the Alamance Country Club on Oct. 10-11. Elon's Maroon Team posted a 54-hole total of 824, just three shots short of the program's all-time 54-hole scoring record of 821.  
  • Garrett Risner shot second-round 63 and went on to earn his first college win at the Phoenix Invitational with a 54-hole total of 199, the lowest in program history. Bronson Myers came in solo second place with a 54-hole total of 200, as the senior made just one bogey on the week. 
  • The maroon and gold then competed at the Wolfpack Intercollegiate on Oct. 15-16, where Risner secured another top-15 finish to pace Elon. 
  • The Phoenix wrapped up its fall with a stellar runner-up result at the Grandover Collegiate on Oct. 29-30. Matthew Doyle finished solo third for the best result of his career, while Myers (T5) and Risner (T13) also placed in the top 15.  
  • Elon had two players win Colonial Athletic Association weekly awards. Risner was named CAA Co-Men's Golfer of the Week on Oct. 12 following his victory at the Phoenix Invitational, and Doyle was tabbed as the CAA Men's Golfer of the Week on Nov. 2 after his third-place finish at the Grandover Collegiate.  
  • The Phoenix posted an average team score of 284 per round in the fall, an improvement of more than four shots compared to the team's 2021 fall campaign.  
  • Elon carded nine team rounds below par in the fall, up from five in the fall of 2021.  
  • The maroon and gold had 10 top-15 finishes from individuals in the fall – three each by Doyle, Myers and Risner and one by Juan Callejo Ropero. 
  • Elon golfers posted 44 individual rounds of par or better in the fall, up from 34 in the fall of 2021. 
 
LAST TIME OUT 
  • Elon shot a final-round 292 to earn a seventh-place finish at the Cutter Creek Intercollegiate in Snow Hill N.C., on Mar. 31-Apr. 2. 
  • Matthew Doyle carded a final-round 74 to place third at 1-under par. The performance earned Doyle his fifth straight top-10 finish and sixth on the season. He led the team in birdies with 12, par-3 scoring average (2.92), and par-4 scoring average (3.97). 
  • As an individual, Oliver Rotermund posted a final round of 73 and carded four birdies. He finished tied for 14th with a 6-over par 222, tying his lowest score of the season.
  • Bronson Myers led the team in pars with 35 and finished tied for 27th posting a 9-over par 225.  
  • Junior Garrett Risner delivered a tournament-low score of 73 to finish 27th place carding a 9-over par 225. 
  • Jennings Glenn finished in 56th place and led the Phoenix for the week in par-5 scoring average (4.58). 
  • As a team, the Phoenix finished second in the tournament for total birdies with 50.  
 
UP NEXT 
Elon will head to the Colonial Athletic Association Championship in Dataw Island, S.C., on April 23-25.
