Leandra Lorenz posted strong results Thursday at the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round, hosted by the University of North Florida. Both McGoogan and Lorenz improved upon their performances in the same events at the same meet from a year ago.
In the hammer throw, McGoogan opened competition with her best throw of the day, 184-feet-1 (56.12m). After fouling on her second toss, she then recorded a distance of 181-1 (55.19m) on her third and final attempt. She placed 37
th overall, an improvement of three spots over a year ago. The throw of 184-1 was the best at an NCAA regional meet by an Elon hammer thrower in program history.
Lorenz placed eighth in her flight in the 1500, running a time of 4:25.33. Overall, she finished 33
rd, 13 spots higher than her 46
th place finish at the same meet a year ago. She also ended one spot higher than her seed of No. 34 entering the competition.
Elon will conclude action at the NCAA East Region Preliminary Round Saturday as
Hannah Miller competes in the 3000 steeplechase at 5:40 p.m.
