LOUISVILLE, Ky. –
Chloe Hatzopoulos of the Elon University softball team was named the Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player of the Week on Tuesday, May 9, following the sophomore's dominant performance last weekend versus North Carolina A&T.
Hatzopoulos put up eye-popping numbers in the Phoenix's three-game set versus its Piedmont Triad rival. The Huntersville, N.C., native hit .778 (7of-9) with five home runs, 12 RBI and seven runs scored with a 2.444 slugging percentage. Her play helped the maroon and gold to a sweep over the Aggies and clinch a top-four seed for the Colonial Athletic Association Softball Championships.
The outfielder opened the series with three home runs in three at-bats, totaling seven RBIs and three runs scored in a 9-0 win for the Phoenix. The three-homer game matches the NCAA single-game high this spring. She followed the performance with two RBI singles in game two before going 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBIs and three runs scored in the series finale. With the three multi-hit efforts, Hatzopoulos has two or more hits in 10 games this season. Additionally, she is third in the CAA with 11 homers.
Hatzopolous becomes the first player in school history to be named National Player of the Week by the NFCA. She is also the only player from the CAA this season to be recognized and the first overall since 2020.
The Division I Louisville Slugger/NFCA Player and Wilson/NFCA Pitcher of the Week are voted on by the NFCA Division I Top 25 Poll Committee.
Fourth-seeded Elon (22-24) opens the CAA Softball Championships in Hempstead, N.Y., on Wednesday, May 10, at noon and will face the higher-seeded winner from games one and two of the tournament.
