ELON, N.C. – The Elon University men's and women's cross country programs will travel to the Virginia Invitational this Saturday, Sept. 23 for its third meet of the 2023 season on the course at Panorama Farms.
 
The Phoenix will start the event with the men's 8K at 8:45 a.m. followed by the women's 5K race at 9:30 a.m.

MEET INFORMATION

Time: Men's 8k - 8:45 a.m. Women's 5k - 9:30 a.m.
Elon Men Competing: Zane Jackson and Evan Taylor.
Elon Women Competing: Jette Beermann, Abby Beville, Katie Blount, Hattie Reynolds, Maggie Springer, Madison Synowiec and Jasmine Young.
 
LAST TIME OUT
• Elon raced at the adidas XC Challenge last Friday, Sept. 15, at the WakeMed Soccer Park Cross Country Course. The Phoenix women won the 5K race with a score of 32 points in the 13-team field while the Elon men was seventh overall out of 17 teams with 198 points.
• In the women's race, Elon had four runners finish in the top 11 led by Springer, who posted a time of 17:31.7 and was eighth overall. Beermann was next behind Springer in ninth and a time of 17:32.1.
• Synowiec was 10th in her season debut for the Phoenix with a time of 17:32.2 while Blount was 11th overall and a time of 17:32.4.
• Young was the fifth Phoenix runner to cross the line in 22nd with a time of 18:11.9.
• Logan Harding paced the Phoenix men in the 6K with a time of 18:59.9 in 29th overall. Another rookie, Joe Lavelle, was the second Elon runner to cross the line with his time of 19:11.3 in 39th overall.
 
SPRINGER NAMED CAA RUNNER OF THE WEEK
• For her efforts, Springer was named the CAA Women's Runner of the Week on Tuesday, Sept. 19. It was the first weekly award for the Elon, N.C., native.
• Springer's performance helped the Phoenix top the 13-team field at the adidas XC Challenge while finishing ahead of four other CAA comrades.
