Milton, Mass. – After finishing runner-up at last week's Elon Invitational, the Elon University women's golf team is in fifth following the first day at the Red Bandanna Intercollegiate. Boston College is hosting the tournament at Blue Hill Country Club in Milton, Mass.
Ashley Lafontaine led the way for the Phoenix, posting rounds of 81 and 68 to sit in a tie for fifth in the individual standings. As a team, Elon is in solo fifth place after rounds of 306 and 304 (+34). Boston College leads the team competition after tallying a 19-over par 595, and Sacred Heart is in second after a 24-over par 600.
HIGHLIGHTS
- After a 9-over par 81 in the opening round, Ashley Lafontaine fired a 4-under par 68 to move into a tie for fifth. The sophomore made a team-high seven birdies on the day and tied for the lead in the field in par-5 scoring (4.63). Lafontaine moved up 50 spots on the individual leaderboard, the most by any individual so far in the tournament.
- Reigning CAA Golfer of the Week, Annabelle Ackroyd is tied for 15th after Monday. The graduate student shaved two strokes off of her opening round score of 77 to shoot a 3-over par 75 in the second round. Ackroyd and Lafontaine lead the team in pars with 20.
- Rounds of 75 and 81 have Andrea Asmundsdottir in a tie for 33rd place in the individual standings. The sophomore leads the team in par-4 scoring average with 4.20.
- Lotte Fox and Annie Wu are in a tie for 42nd place after shooting a 36-hole total 158 (+14).
- As a team, the Phoenix is tied for the lead in birdies with 21 and second in the field in par-5 scoring (5.03).
