Chapel Hill, N.C. – Helen Sarikulaya and Miray Konar made history over the weekend at the ITA Carolina Regionals, becoming the first Elon players in program history to advance to the doubles semifinals. In total, Elon won 12 singles matches and another six doubles matches during the tournament.
 
Sarikulaya and Konar won four matches to advance to the semifinals. Their path began with an 8-3 victory over Gardner-Webb's Natalie Crawford and Arili Boshoff in the first round. The duo moved on to the round of 16 by defeating South Carolina's Lauren Friedman and Jana Stojanova by an identical 8-3 count.
 
Against Charlotte's Lucia Aranda and Prisca Abbas, the Elon team of Sarikulaya and Konar earned a victory in the tiebreak 8-7 (5) to reach the quarterfinals. The pair again pulled out a tiebreak victory against Wake Forest's Whitley Pate and Anna Zhang 8-7 (4). In the semifinals, matches moved to two-out-of-three sets and Sarikulya and Konar battled, but were eventually beaten by Duke's Elizabeth Coleman and Irina Balus 7-5, 6-3.
 
In other doubles action, Elon's Ella Suk and Madison Cordisco earned a first round win over Furman's Marissa Pennings and Alexa Griffith 8-5.
 
In singles play, Sarikulaya also had a strong performance, earning a trip to the main draw with two qualifying draw victories. She opened with a win over Charleston Southern's Amila Jusufbegovic 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 and then defeated Boshoff from Gardner-Webb 6-1, 6-3.
 
Simone Bergeron, Cordisco and Mariana Reding also picked up qualifying draw victories in round one. In the consolation round, Lisa Kranec, Reding, Konar and Suk all won matches. Kranec and Heidi Bulger had extra match victories as well.
 
In the main draw consolation round, Sarikulaya got another victory, defeating Charlotte's Abbas 6-3, 6-4.
 
Elon will conclude the fall season by playing at the Liberty Invitational Nov. 1-3.
