Elon Posts Two Dozen PRs And Season Bests At Duke Invitational

Durham, N.C. – The Elon University track & field team earned no fewer than 14 personal bests and 10 more season bests in the first two days of competition at the Duke Invitational. The Phoenix took part in hammer throw Thursday, followed by a full day of competition Friday. The meet with conclude Saturday, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
 
Of the 38 Elon entrances Thursday and Friday, 24 resulted in a climb up the 2024 outdoor performance lists.
 
NOTABLE RESULTS
  • Elon had seven personal best times in the 1500 as Jette Beermann led the way. Her time of 4:19.33 placed third in the invitational section of the meet and ranks fourth in Elon school history.
  • Along with Beermann, Abby Beville (4:33.49), Quinn Smith (4:34.61), Julia Bell (4:36.02), Sarah Petitjean (4:37.00), Alison Hodgson (4:37.40) and Emily Alps (4:47.01) all dropped personal best times. With a time of 4:22.58, Anna Twomey added a season-best time.
  • High jump saw another collection of milestone marks as Hannah Schonhoff placed sixth overall, tying her season-best height of 5-feet-5 (1.65m). Katherine Faddis (4-9 / 1.45m) and Justice Wilbourn (4-9 / 1.45m) set new PRs and Noelle Murray (4-7 / 1.40m) tied hers.
  • One of Elon's best pair of results came in discus as Kaitlin McGoogan placed third with a throw of 161-9 (49.31m). That distance is a season-best and ranks No. 2 in the CAA. Teammate Lauryn Carlton recorded her best discus performance since 2022, throwing 145-7 (44.39m).
  • In the 200, Piper Jons had a wind-aided season best time of 24.04 seconds to place 10th. Meghan Wilcox added a season-best time of 24.85 seconds and Jazlyn Jefferson had a season-best effort as well at 25.11 seconds.
  • McGoogan had a sixth-place finish in hammer throw Thursday at 180-7 (55.04m), while Carlton placed eighth with a season-best toss of 176-9 (53.89m). Meghan Coyne also had a season-best mark at 158-6 (48.33m).
  • Caden Cerminara set an outdoor PR in pole vault, clearing 11-7.75 (3.55m).
  • Jasmine Young ran a personal best time of 17:14.28 and finished fifth in the invitational portion of the 5,000.
  • Lizzie Lopez finished the first day of heptathlon competition with 2,556 points. She had a personal best time of 26.90 seconds in the 200 and added a wind-aided PR in the 100 hurdles at 15.78 seconds. She also cleared a season-best height of 5-3 (1.60m) in high jump.
 
UP NEXT
  • Elon returns to action Saturday for the final day of the Duke Invitational. Competition begins at 11:00 a.m. with the long jump. The heptathlon is scheduled to conclude the meet with the 800 at 5:45 p.m.
