Elon Continues Making Strong Progress On Final Day Of Duke Invite

Durham, N.C. – The Elon University track & field team continued to build momentum Saturday as the Phoenix concluded competition at the Duke Invitational. Elon rose up the program's record lists in four events and set numerous personal and season bests.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Freshman Jaqueline Zacharias threw the javelin 139-feet-8 (42.57m) to climb to fourth in program history in the event. That effort was almost 20 feet further than a week ago, when she established her new collegiate PR, and was almost 40 feet further than she threw to open the season. She ranks third in the CAA with that performance.
  • Lizzie Lopez closed out the heptathlon in impressive fashion, finishing with a career-best 4,199 points, seventh-most in program history. She set new personal bests in long jump and javelin, while also recording an outdoor PR in the 800.
  • In shot put, Lauryn Carlton placed 11th overall with a distance of 44-feet-6 (13.56m). Tristin Oberg added a PR performance of 42-2.25 (12.86m), ranking No. 10 in school history in the event. Haleigh Cephus added an outdoor PR at 34-10.25 (10.62m).
  • In the 800, Arianna Sakoutis posted a personal best time of 2:11.89, tenth-fastest in school history. Alison Hodgson followed with a season-best time of 2:13.69, while Sarah Petitjean recorded a PR of 2:14.15. Quinn Smith (2:16.88) and Julia Bell (2:17.77) also set new PRs.
  • Alexa Mark finished 11th in long jump as she posted a season-best distance of 18-4.25 (5.60m). That was her best outdoor long jump mark since 2022.
  • Jazlyn Jefferson finished seventh in triple jump by leaping 38-7.5 (11.77m).

UP NEXT
  • Elon will compete in two meets this week as the Phoenix will take part in the Wake Forest Invitational Friday and the North Carolina A&T Invitational Friday and Saturday.
