ELON, N.C. – Following a successful regular season, the Elon University men's golf team looks to continue that success at the CAA Championship on Sunday-Monday. The tournament will be contested at the par-72, 6,849-yard Dataw Island Cotton Dike Golf Course in Saint Helena Island, S.C., for the fourth straight year.
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
- Teams will play one round each on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Play will begin at 8:30 a.m. on both Sunday and Monday and at 8 a.m. on Tuesday. Players will tee off continuously on the first hole on the first two days and will tee off continuously on holes No. 1 and 10 on Tuesday.
- The other teams participating in the event are Campbell, College of Charleston, Delaware, Drexel, Hofstra, Monmouth, North Carolina A&T, Towson, UNCW and William & Mary.

ELON LINEUP
FALL SEASON RECAP
- The Phoenix had a strong fall season, highlighted by four top-5 finishes in its five tournaments.
- The team started the season with a runner-up finish at the Allstate Streamsong Invitational on Sept. 11-13. Garrett Risner led the Phoenix finishing third with a 54-hole total of (-10) while carding a team-best 16 birdies.
- The maroon and gold then competed at the JT Poston Invitational on Sept. 25-26 earning their second runner-up finish. Juan Callejo Ropero carded his season-low round of 64 in the final round to tie for third while Jack Wieler also finished in the top-10 tied for sixth.
- The team traveled to Wilmington, N.C. on Oct. 9-10 to compete at the Williams Cup where they placed 10th.
- Elon then defended its Phoenix Invitational title at the Alamance Country Club on Oct. 16-17. Elon's Maroon Team posted a 54-hole total of 821 (-31) tying the program's all-time 54-hole scoring record, winning by 10 strokes.
- Risner paced the Phoenix in solo third place with a 54-hole total of 204 (-9) including a second round 65 (-6).
- The Phoenix wrapped up its fall season with another stellar runner-up result at the Bryan National Collegiate on Oct. 29-30. Risner posted his third top-5 finish in a tie for fourth while Wieler (T9), Bronson Myers (T18) and Juan Callejo Ropero (T18) also placed in the top 20.
- Elon had two golfers win CAA weekly awards with Risner earning the honors twice. Callejo Ropero was tabbed the CAA Co-Men's Golfer of the Week on Sept. 27 after his third-place finish at the JT Poston Invitational. Risner was named CAA Men's Golfer of the Week on Oct. 18 following his performance at the Phoenix Invitational before earning Co-Men's Golfer of the Week on Nov. 1 following the Bryan National Collegiate.
- The Phoenix posted an average team score of 285.4 per round in the fall.
- Elon carded 10 team rounds below par in the fall, up from nine in the fall of 2022, and had an 11th posted by the Elon B team at the Phoenix Invitational.
- The maroon and gold had eight top-10 finishes and five top-5 finishes from individuals in the fall. Risner had three top-5 finishes and one from Callejo Ropero.
- Elon golfers posted 49 individual rounds of par or better in the fall, up from 44 in the fall of 2022.
SPRING SEASON RECAP
- Elon began its spring season with a fifth-place result at the 36-hole Battle at Briar's Creek on Feb. 5-6. Juan Callejo Ropero was Elon's top finisher tying for 15th place with a 1-over par 145.
- The Phoenix earned a sixth-place finish at the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate on Feb. 11-13 Elon shot a tournament-low 276 (-12) in the final round, to jump up five spots on the leaderboard. Matthew Doyle tied for seventh with an 8-under par 208 and earned CAA Golfer of the Week honors for his performance. Doyle paced the team in birdies (14) and par-5 scoring (4.17) while leading the entire field in par-3 scoring average (2.83).
- Elon tied for third as it built its momentum at the Tiger Invitational on Mar. 11-12. Bronson Myers and Garrett Risner posted top-10 finishes while Jack Wieler tied for 13th place.
- The Phoenix hit the west coast Mar. 25-26 finishing sixth at the Bridgestone Collegiate Invitational. Doyle and Risner paced the Phoenix tying for 17th place with a 4-over par 220.
- In tune-up for the CAA Championship, Elon earned a runner-up finish at the Cutter Creek Invitational on Mar. 29-31. Wieler led the Phoenix in third place where he carded three rounds of par or better including a season-low round of 66 (-6) in the second-round firing six birdies and an eagle. He earned his first career CAA Golfer of the Week honor for his performance.
HISTORY AT THE CAA CHAMPIONSHIP
- Elon posted their best finish in the CAA Championship last year when they placed second with a 54-hole total of 858 (-6). Three Elon individuals finished in the top 10 and all five Phoenix players placed in the top 15. Matthew Doyle (T3) and Landon Durham (T5) both finished in the top-5 to earn All-Tournament honors.
- The Phoenix has finished in the top five in seven of its last eight tournament appearances.
