Elon, N.C. – Elon University redshirt junior safety
Caleb Curtain has been named FCS Football Central Second Team Preseason All-American.
Coming off a breakout 2023 season in which he was named a second team All-American by FCS Stats Perform, the AFCA, the Associated Press and Phil Steele, Curtain leads a talented Elon defense into the 2024 season.
Curtain started all 11 games a year ago at safety and led Elon with 80 tackles, 54 of which were solo. He added 6.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. He opened the 2023 season with a bang, returning an interception 50 yards for a touchdown against Wake Forest.
Curtain had a career-high 12 tackles at Villanova and recovered fumbles in back-to-back weeks against Villanova and Monmouth. He was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week after recording 11 tackles in Elon's 14-6 win over then-No. 5 William & Mary.
HeroSports ranked Curtain as the top returning safety in the CAA heading into the 2024 season. Elon will open the season Aug. 30 at Duke in a game televised nationally on the ACC Network. The Phoenix's home opener will take place Sept. 14 against Western Carolina at 6 p.m.
