Women's Tennis To Open Fall Season By Hosting Jimmy Powell Invitational Friday And Saturday

ELON, N.C. – The Elon University women's tennis team opens the 2024-25 fall season by hosting the Jimmy Powell Invitational Friday and Saturday at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center.
 
TOURNAMENT INFORMATION 
  • Friday's and Saturday's matches start at 9 a.m. with the weekend featuring three rounds of doubles and three rounds of singles. 
  • There will be no live stats or live video stream for the tournament.

  • Other teams participating include East Carolina, Virginia Tech, Liberty, and North Carolina Central.
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
  • Elon is coming off a 14-10 season, advancing to the CAA Women's Tennis Tournament quarterfinals.
  • Elon is led by head coach Elizabeth Anderson, who is in her 21st season with the program. 
  • Six players from last year's squad will be returning this season, with a combined total of 13 collegiate career awards and recognitions. 
  • Senior Miray Konar will be returning to play for Elon after winning four of her final five singles appearances at the end of the 2023-24 season. She also holds a career record of 19-11 in singles matches and 22-13 in doubles matches. 
  • Juniors Madison Cordisco and Helen Sarikulaya will be making their return to the courts, holding a combined record of 39-29 in doubles and 30-20 in singles. Cordisco finished the 2023-24 season with 14 doubles victories. Of those 14 victories, 13 came in at No. 2, and the other came at the No.1 spot. Sarikulaya left the 2023-24 season with 13 wins at the bottom half of Elon's match lineup and won six singles contests at the No. 4 spot.
  • Sophomores Ella Suk, Simone Bergeron, and Mariana Reding will also be making their return to the courts after all three received CAA Doubles Player of the Week recognition in the Spring '24 season. Suk currently holds a record of 15-7 in doubles and 10-12 in singles, and last season secured a win against Monmouth in the CAA Tournament. Bergeron holds a record of 13-5 in doubles and 12-3 in singles. Of the 12 dual single matches she won during her debut campaign, 10 of them came in straight sets. Reding will be entering the tournament with a record of 13-8 in doubles and 15-7 in singles matches. During her freshman season, she tied her older sister Lizette Reding for the most singles wins on the team (15), and she added 13 doubles victories to the mix. 
  • The Phoenix will be joined by two new members of the team this tournament, Freshmen Lisa Kranek and Heidi Bulgar.
