Johnson, Kimmie Lead Impressive Efforts At JDL College Team Challenge

Winston-Salem, N.C. – More than half of Elon's 15 competitors set new personal bests Thursday evening at the JDL College Team Challenge, led by strong performances by Ja'mia Johnson and Nevaeh Kimmie.
 
INTO THE TOP TEN
  • Junior Ja'mia Johnson won the 60 hurdles and set a new personal best time of 8.90 seconds. That time is good for seventh in program history.
  • Freshman Nevaeh Kimmie won the triple jump at 36-feet-9 (11.20m). That distance is good for ninth in school history.
 
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Mary Sollars won the 400 with a personal best time of 1:00.59, while teammate Olivia Waymer was third with another PR time of 1:01.75.
  • Tina Varis won the 800 with a collegiate-best time of 2:22.32.
  • Waymer added a third place finish in the 60 hurdles with another personal best time at 9.22 seconds.
  • In the high jump, Noelle Murray cleared 4-feet-11.75 (1.52m), her personal best.
  • Elon added two PRs in the weight throw behind the efforts of Haleigh Cephus (47-4.5 | 14.44m) and Savannah Hameed (47-4.25 | 14.43m).
 
UP NEXT
  • Elon takes part in two meets Friday. The Phoenix will start with the two-day Darius Dixon Memorial Invitational, hosted by Liberty, beginning at 1:40 p.m. Elon's distance runners will compete at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational, hosted by Boston University, beginning with the mile at 1:45 p.m.
