Elon to Host Tripleheader This Weekend

Elon, N.C. - The Elon University women's tennis team will make their fourth appearance this weekend at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center for the spring season. The Phoenix is ready for an action-packed weekend as they host two matches on Saturday, Shaw at 12 p.m. (please note the time change) and Salem at 2:30 p.m. But that's not all; the Phoenix will return on Sunday to close out the weekend's tripleheader with a match against Furman at 1 p.m. 

FOLLOW ALONG
ABOUT THE PHOENIX
  • Elon is currently 5-2 on the season, with their most recent match being a 4-0 loss against Charlotte. 
  • Elon holds a singles record of 28-11 and a doubles record of 13-7. 
  • Freshman standout Lisa Kranec holds the team's best singles record this season at 5-1. 
  • Sophomore duo Simone Bergeron and Mariana Reding hold the team's best doubles record so far this season of 4-1. 
  • The pairing of senior Miray Konar and junior Helen Sarikulaya has bode well for the Phoenix as they hold a 4-2 doubles record. 
  • Konar and Ella Suk remain undefeated in singles matches. Konar's record is 2-0, along with Suk's 1-0. 
  • Having played doubles with Reding, Suk, and Kranec, Bergeron holds the best individual record for doubles this season of 6-1. 
  • Elon is led by head coach Elizabeth Anderson, who has 294 career victories, and is assisted by Ashe Ray. 

SCOUTING SHAW
  • The Phoenix will host Shaw for the Bears' first match of the spring season. 
  • This will be the third time the Bears and Phoenix have met. Elon has a 2-0 all-time record against Shaw going into the weekend.
  • The teams last met in February 2024, when Elon won 7-0. 
  • Shaw's eight-person roster comprises five seniors, one junior, and two sophomores. 
  • Shaw ended last season 18-5, going 9-0 in their Division II conference, the CIAA. 
  • The Bears are coached by Sunday Enitan, who joined the team in 2000 and has since led the Bears to 12 CIAA titles. 

SCOUTING SALEM
  • The Phoenix will host Salem for the Spirits' first match of the spring season. 
  • This is only the second time Elon has played Salem, and their only other match-up ended in a 5-0 victory for Elon.
  • This team is young, composed of five freshmen, five sophomores, and one junior. 
  • The Spirits ended their last season 6-10, going 3-5 in their Division III conference, the USA South. 
  • The Spirits are coached by Ed Steele, who joined the team in 2015, eventually leading them to their first-ever appearance in the USA South Conference Tournament in 2023, where they ultimately lost to N.C. Wesleyan. 

SCOUTING FURMAN
  • The Paladins are 5-2 on the season, with their most recent match being a 4-2 loss against Virginia Tech. 
  • The Paladin's only other loss was 4-1 to Wake Forest, who beat the Phoenix 7-0 earlier this season. 
  • This match will be the teams' 18th meeting since 2004. Furman leads 14-3, with the last three contests resulting in losses for the Phoenix.
  • The teams last met in 2019, when Elon lost 7-0. 
  • The Paladins ended last season 12-13, going 6-1 in the Southern Conference.
  • The team is composed of six seniors and one sophomore. 
  • The Paladins are coached by Michelle Dasso, who is going into her third year of coaching Furman. In her first season coaching the Paladins, she led them to a regular season conference title after posting a perfect 7-0 conference record in the 2022-23 season.
