Elon To Host Belmont Abbey In Doubleheader Saturday

Elon, N.C. - The Elon University women's tennis team retakes the court for their fifth match of the spring season this weekend as the Phoenix hosts Belmont Abbey in two matches Saturday. Both matches will take place at the Jimmy Powell Tennis Center, with Match 1 starting at 11 a.m. and Match 2 at 2:30 p.m.

THE MATCHUP
  • This will be the first time Elon women's tennis has competed against Belmont Abbey since 2020 when the Phoenix scored a 7-0 victory over the Crusaders. 
  • The Phoenix's last (and only) match against Belmont Abbey was played at a neutral site in Durham, so Elon heads into the weekend ready to take on the Crusaders at home. 

ABOUT THE PHOENIX
  • Elon is currently 3-1 on the season, with their most recent match being a 7-0 loss to Wake Forest on Jan. 26. 
  • The Phoenix has won 16-of-24 singles matches so far this year and has claimed victory in six of the 11 doubles contests. 
  • Heidi Bulger and Lisa Kranec, the Phoenix freshmen, both hold 3-1 records for their singles matches this season. 
  • Sophomore Mariana Reding and junior Madison Cordisco also hold 3-1 records for their singles matches this season. 
  • Elon is led by head coach Elizabeth Anderson, and is assisted by Ashe Ray. 

ABOUT BELMONT ABBEY
  • Belmont Abbey is in Conference Carolinas, a Division II conference. 
  • The Crusaders are 2-0 this season after going 20-11 in the 2023-24 season. 
  • Belmont Abbey is coached by Michael Saloman, who has led the program for over a decade. 

ELON VS. CONFERENCE CAROLINAS 
  • In the past decade, Elon holds a record of 5-0 playing schools in the Conference Carolinas, playing matches against Barton, Mount Olive, Chowan, and Belmont Abbey.
