Jazlyn Jefferson Breaks School Record In Triple Jump As Elon Completes Weekend

Blacksburg, Va. and Winston-Salem, N.C. – Elon University senior Jazlyn Jefferson broke a school record that had stood for 14 years as the Phoenix indoor track & field team completed a successful weekend as the program prepares for the CAA Indoor Championship later in the month. Elon sent split squads to the Doc Hale Invitational, hosted by Virginia Tech, and the Camel City Distance meet at JDL Fast Track. Jefferson's record-breaking performance came at Virginia Tech.

JAZLYN JEFFERSON SETS TRIPLE JUMP RECORD
  • A transfer from Hampton, Jazlyn Jefferson recorded a distance of 40-feet-2.25 (12.25m) to break Elon's school record by one centimeter. Jefferson's career best is 40-6 (12.34m), set while competing for the Pirates.
  • The previous school record of 40-2 (12.24m) was held by Veronica Day, who accomplished the feat on Feb. 27, 2011.
  • Earlier this year, Jefferson had leaped 39-7 (12.07m), which was the fourth-best effort in program history.
  • Her distance ranks first among all CAA jumpers this year.

OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
  • Freshman Isabella Johnson entered the program's top-10 list in the shot put while competing at the Camel City Distance meet. She threw 44-feet-1.25 (13.44m) for eighth place in school history.
  • Also in the shot put, Savannah Hameed (35-1 | 10.69m) and Allison Mateyak (34-2.75 | 10.43m) set new personal bests.
  • In the 3,000, Cami Glebocki (10:21.54) and Alme Jordaan (11:54.75) recorded a pair of PRs.
  • Winter Oaster ran a personal best time of 5:07.90 in the mile.
