SOUTHPORT, N.C. – Junior
Ashley Lafontaine is tied for second in the field as Elon's top finisher after carding a field-best eight birdies, helping the Phoenix secure fifth place after the opening round.
Elon posted a first-round score of 313 (+25) to sit in solo fifth place. Defending CAA champion Delaware and Charleston lead the field at 9-over-par 297.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Ashley Lafontaine is tied for second after shooting an even-par 72, highlighted by a team- and field-high eight birdies. She also leads the field in par-5 scoring average (4.25) and is tied for the lead in par-3 scoring average (2.25).
- Emma Hansen also sits in the top 15 with a 4-over-par 76. She recorded three birdies and nine pars to tie for 13th place and leads the team in par-4 scoring average (4.10).
- Kelly Zhao carded a first-round 82 (+10) to tie for 29th place.
- Andrea Asmundsdottir and Garland Gould are both tied for 33rd after posting 11-over-par 83s. Asmundsdottir leads the team in total pars with 10.
