DURHAM, N.C. – The Elon University track and field team continued its outdoor season this weekend at the Duke Invitational, competing against a strong field of regional and national programs at Morris Williams Stadium. The Phoenix saw several personal bests, top-10 program marks, and continued growth across event groups as the team gears up for the second half of the season.
THE RUNDOWN
- Lizzie Lopez made her outdoor multi debut with a fifth-place finish in the heptathlon, scoring a personal-best 4,609 points — the No. 4 mark in program history. She posted top-4 finishes in the high jump (5-5.25), 200 (25.98), and 800 (2:30.23).
- In the 800, Shayla Cann clocked a personal-best 2:09.99 to place 15th overall, while Gabi Walker followed in 2:10.82. Both rank among the top five in the CAA this season, while Cann's time places her fifth in program history.
- Sarah Petitjean (2:13.07) and Quinn Smith (2:14.29) added personal best times in the 800.
- Petitjean led Elon in the 1500 meters, finishing in 4:31.54, while Jasmine Young (17:12.37) and Madison Galindo (17:18.33) paced the Phoenix in the 5000 meters. Young's time was a season-best and Galindo's was a new PR.
- In the sprints, Arianna Alexander ran 11.97 in the 100 to place 15th, while Meghan Wilcox led the 200 group in 24.78.
- Mary Sollars posted a personal best time in the 400 at 59.15.
- Jazlyn Jefferson placed 10th in the triple jump with a season-best leap of 39-3 (11.96m), just shy of her personal best.
- In the throws, Isabella Johnson had another big weekend, placing:
- 6th in the discus (148-3 | 45.18m)
- 9th in the shot put (42-6.75 | 12.97m), a new personal best and tied for 10th in school history
- 19th in the hammer throw, tying with Amelia Metz at 167-10 (51.17m) for a new personal best
- Amelia Metz's hammer throw performance was a new season best.
UP NEXT
Elon will return to competition this weekend. The team is scheduled to compete in the Wake Forest Invitational Friday and the North Carolina A&T Classic Friday and Saturday.
