Box Score ELON, N.C. – In its final appearance on Rudd Field in 2025, the Elon University women's lacrosse team delivered a commanding all-around performance, overpowering Queens University of Charlotte 18-9 in a statement victory. The win secured back-to-back winning seasons for the Phoenix (9–6, 5–2 CAA) for the first time since 2016–17 (excluding the shortened 2020 season).
The Phoenix wasted no time, building an 11-0 lead in the first 25 minutes of play behind an explosive offensive effort and lockdown defense. Sammy Fisher and Mackenzie Coleman paced the offense with four points apiece, including three goals each, a career high for Coleman. MJ Santa Barbara once again rewrote the record books in the draw control circle. For the second time in her collegiate career, she broke Elon's single-game record, collecting 16 draw controls. The performance also marks the highest single-game draw control total in the CAA this season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- For the third straight game, Sammy Fisher opened the scoring, giving Elon an early lead just 25 seconds into the contest.
- Fisher's quick strike set the tone for the Phoenix, who delivered a flawless first quarter, shutting out Queens while scoring seven goals, each from a different player.
- Elon carried its momentum into the second quarter, extending the lead to 11–0 behind a continued offensive surge and a stifling defensive effort. The Phoenix held the Royals to just four shots on goal and seven total attempts in the first half.
- Queens responded with a 5–1 run that spanned the end of the second and start of the third quarter. The Royals outscored Elon 5–3 in the third, but the early deficit proved too large to overcome.
- The Phoenix closed strong in the fourth, scoring four more goals, including two from Mackenzie Coleman, to seal the 18–9 victory.
- Elon tied or won the ground ball battle in every quarter and dominated the draw circle throughout the game, finishing with a 23–7 advantage.
