HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Elon University track and field team continued its outdoor campaign this weekend at the VertKlasse Meeting hosted by High Point University, gaining experience and building momentum as the season progresses.
The Phoenix women turned in a series of solid efforts across the sprints, distance, hurdles, and field events, highlighted by several top-five finishes in both invitational and open sections.
THE RUNDOWN
- Meghan Wilcox led the charge in the sprints, placing fifth in the 100 (11.76) and fourth in the 200 (24.26), while Jazlyn Jefferson (24.62) and Arianna Alexander (24.85) joined her in the top 10 of the 200.
- Mya Lee's time of 12.14 in the 100 places her ninth in program history. She added a PR time of 25.50 in the 200.
- In the distance races, Julia Bell claimed the top spot in the invitational section of the 1500 with a personal best time of 4:35.86, followed closely by Winter Oaster in third (4:38.06) with a PR of her own. Cami Glebocki's time of 4:40.98 was a PR as well as Addison George's 4:41.15.
- Gabi Walker made a strong statement in the 800, finishing second overall in 2:10.48. That time ranks sixth in school history. Tina Varis also set a PR in the 800 with a time of 2:20.14.
- Elon's hurdlers put together a consistent showing, with Duna Viñals placing sixth in the 400 hurdles (1:01.81), ranking seventh in school history. A trio of Phoenix athletes — Olivia Waymer (1:05.46), Anna Kozlova (1:05.47), and Mary Sollars (1:05.47) — clocked nearly identical times in the developmental section of the event. For Kozlova and Sollars, their times were new personal bests, along with Ja'mia Johnson in 1:06.89.
- The jumps group was led by Hannah Schonhoff, who cleared 5-5 (1.65m) to finish third in the A flight of the high jump. Jazlyn Jefferson also landed seventh in the triple jump (38-10.5), and Lizzie Lopez notched a mark of 18-2.5 in the long jump to place 19th.
- In the throws, Isabella Johnson continued her strong freshman campaign with a fourth-place finish in the discus (153-1 | 46.66m) and a 12th-place showing in the shot put. Her discus throw places her sixth in program history. Also in discus, Grace Wager recorded a mark of 148-5 (45.24m) to rank 10th in school history.
- Johnson also took eighth in the elite section of the hammer throw with a mark of 165-10, joining Adriana Clarke, who placed fourth in the same flight (176-4). Meghan Coyne added a sixth-place effort in the open section of the hammer (149-8).
- In javelin, Jaqueline Zacharias (127-4 | 38.82m) posted a season-best distance, while Julia Edler (106-10 | 32.56m) and Savannah Hameed (104-11 | 31.98m) both recorded personal bests.
- The 400 relay team of Duna Viñals, Meghan Wilcox, Mya Lee and Arianna Alexander ran a season-best time of 46.80 seconds, eighth-fastest in school history.
- On the men's side, Jack Kane earned a runner-up finish in the 5000 meters, clocking 15:03.98, while Seth Steiner (4:04.98) and Caden Strickland (15:59.48) competed in the 1500 and 5000, respectively.
