GREENSBORO, N.C. – A year after seeing its four-peat attempt come up short on its home track last season, the Elon University women's track and field team returned to the winner's circle to capture the program's fourth league title in the past five seasons at the CAA Outdoor Championships on Thursday, May 15 at Marcus T. Johnson Stadium at North Carolina A&T.
Elon scored 147 points at the meet, distancing itself from runner-up Hampton, who scored 122 points. Host North Carolina A&T was third overall with 102 points. The win was the Phoenix's sixth CAA outdoor title overall at its tenth league meet.
The Phoenix was boosted by three individual champions on the final day of the of the meet.
Lizzie Lopez took the gold in the heptathlon, scoring 4,959 points.
Quinn Smith added a title in the 1,500-meters while Mikaya Jones rounded out the Elon gold medalists with her victory in the 5,000-meters. In all, the Phoenix had four individual champions at the CAAs, with Lopez, Smith and Jones joining
Adriana Clarke, who won the hammer throw on the first day.
EVENT RUNDOWNS
Pole Vault – The Phoenix's final day began with
Caden Cerminara finishing fourth overall in the pole vault. The sophomore cleared the bar at a height of 3.75m, earning five points for the maroon and gold.
Triple Jump – Elon had two athletes finish in the top-five of the triple jump as
Jazlyn Jefferson garnered a fourth place standing. Jefferson had a leap of 12.16m for a new season-best while teammate
Mia Stimpson was fifth with a jump of 12.13m, a new personal-record for the rookie.
1,500-meters – After qualifying for the finals yesterday, Smith,
Sarah Petitjean and
Abby Beville put on a great race on day two, with Smith winning the Phoenix's third individual crown. The sophomore had a personal-best of 4:23.42 to lead all runners with teammate Petitjean following as the runner-up with her time of 4:23.69 – also a new personal-best. Beville would join the duo in the top five with her time of 4:26.32.
High Jump – Hannah Schonhoff was seventh in the high jump after she cleared the bar at 1.70m, setting a new season-best for the junior.
Discus Throw – Isabella Johnson was fifth in the discus throw for the Phoenix, with her mark of 46.79.
800-meters – Elon saw two of its athletes earn top-four finishes in
Shayla Cann and
Gabi Walker in the 800-meters. Cann was the runner-up with a personal-best time of 2:07.89 while Walker clocked a new personal-record with a time of 2:08.96 in fourth.
400-meter hurdles – Duna Viñals was fourth overall in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the line with a time of 1:00.3 – setting a new personal-best in the event.
5,000-meters – Elon swept the podium in the 5,000-meters as Jones took first with her time of 16:52.74.
Madison Synowiec joined Jones as a medalist finisher in second with a time of 16:56.19, while
Mariana Martinez was third overall with a time of 17:04.79.
Hannah Weber also scored points for the maroon and gold with her seventh-place finish with a time of 17:27.42.
4x400m – The quartet of Viñals, Cann, Beville and Walker helped Elon secure the title in the 4x4 with the group finishing fourth overall with a time of 3:44.79

• The 2025 NCAA East Preliminaries will take place on May 28-31 in Jacksonville, Fla., for any athletes who qualify.
