Elon, N.C. – Following a historic season, the Elon University women's tennis team swept the Coastal Athletic Association's three major awards and earned six All-CAA selections, as announced by the conference on Friday, May 9. Sophomore Simone Bergeron was named the CAA Women's Tennis Player of the Year, freshman Heidi Bulger received CAA Rookie of the Year honors, and head coach Elizabeth Anderson was recognized as CAA Coach of the Year.
Simone Bergeron - CAA Player of the Year, First Team All-CAA Singles, First Team All-CAA Doubles
Simone Bergeron won three awards and became Elon's first CAA Player of the Year. Bergeron clinched the championship for Elon after a highly competitive match against William & Mary. She ended the season with a singles record of 12-9 and a doubles record of 20-4. Bergeron partnered with Mariana Reding to become the power duo for the Phoenix. After the CAA Championship, the duo had a 12-match win streak.
Heidi Bulger - CAA Rookie of the Year, Second Team All-CAA Singles
Bulger ended her first season with the Phoenix with two CAA awards, recognizing her for her achievements this season. Named Rookie of the Year, Bulger played an instrumental role in many key matches, clinching a key win against South Carolina State earlier in the season. Bulger ended the season with a singles record of 18-4, ending with a 12-match win streak.
Mariana Reding - First Team All-CAA Doubles, Second Team All-CAA Singles
Reding played a vital part in Elon's doubles success this season. Paired up with Bergeron, she collected 18 wins, ending the regular season on a 10-match win streak. Reding's success also carried over to singles, ending the season with a record of 16-6.
Lisa Kranec - Second Team All-CAA Doubles
Having played doubles with five of her teammates throughout her first season at Elon, Kranec was an important piece to many doubles teams. Paired up most with Helen Sarikulaya, the duo went 5-2, collecting vital wins in both tournament matches and their last regular-season match against William & Mary. Additionally, she teamed up with Bulger to collect a 4-3 victory over East Carolina.
Helen Sarikulaya - Second Team All-CAA Doubles, Third Team All-CAA Singles
Paired up with Kranec, Sarikulaya brought fire to the Phoenix's doubles matchups, collecting an individual doubles record of 13-9, going 5-2 with Kranec. Sarikulaya went 12-10 in singles, getting two singles wins in the CAA tournament. She had key performances against ECU and William & Mary.
Coach Elizabeth Anderson - CAA Coach of the Year
This season has been a big one for Coach Anderson, collecting her 300th win, achieving the first CAA championship trophy in program history, and winning the highest conference honor for a coach, CAA Coach of the Year. Anderson just finished her 21st season at Elon, averaging over 14 wins per season. This is Anderson's second Coach of the Year achievement, as she was honored in 2016 when the program advanced to the CAA Championship.
