RICHMOND, Va. – For the second straight week, Elon senior Joe Taylor has been named CAA Defensive Player of the Week as the conference released its weekly men's soccer awards Monday.
The defender scored his second game-winning goal in the last three games Saturday, converting in the 62nd minute to put the Phoenix up 2-1 in an eventual 3-1 road victory at William & Mary. Taylor also scored a game-winning goal for Elon at Duke on Sept. 25.
Taylor logged 81 minutes on Elon's back line to help the Phoenix defeat the Tribe and earn three points in the CAA South Division standings. Taylor also started for the Phoenix on Sept. 29 in a 3-1 home win against USC Upstate.
Taylor is the first CAA player this fall to repeat as Defensive Player of the Week. This is the second straight season an Elon player has won CAA Defensive Player of the Week in back-to-back weeks as
Jackson Leavitt did so in 2025.
The Phoenix returns to action Tuesday at Rudd Field for a nonconference match against Guilford College. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
