CHARLOTTE – Elon women's track & field opened competition at the Charlotte Invitational on Friday at the Irwin Belk Track & Field Center, earning a pair of event victories while adding two personal-best performances on the meet's first day.
The Phoenix were led by wins from
Quinn Smith and
Jaqueline Zacharias in a strong showing across distance and field events.
Smith captured the 1500-meter invite title with a time of 4:23.56, pacing a dominant Elon contingent that placed three runners in the top three.
Abby Beville followed in second at 4:24.93, while
Sarah Petitjean took third in 4:28.26.
Julia Bell (9th, 4:36.65) and
Cami Glebocki (12th, 4:39.51) rounded out the group, with Glebocki recording a personal best.
Zacharias added Elon's other victory in the javelin, winning the event with a throw of 46.01 meters (150'11").
In the hammer throw,
Isabella Johnson posted a runner-up finish with a mark of 59.59 meters, while
Adriana Clarke placed fourth at 54.99 meters.
Grace Wager finished 13th with a throw of 47.71 meters.
Emilia Smith turned in a strong distance performance in the 5000-meter open, finishing second in 17:49.58.
Jenna Gilman and
Gabi Walker added podium finishes in the 800-meter invite, placing second and third with times of 2:09.63 and 2:10.01, respectively.
In the 3000-meter steeplechase invite,
Winter Oaster registered a personal-best time of 11:11.49 to place fifth, while
Amelia Summers finished seventh in 11:36.41.
Elsewhere,
Mia Stimpson took sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 11.59 meters, and
Ashland Dickel placed 18th in the 5000-meter invite with a time of 17:52.06.
