Summary
Tanner Samson finished his career as one of the best players and shooters to ever don the maroon and gold. A native of Littleton, Colorado, he became Elon’s all-time leader with 324 three-pointers and became the first Phoenix player in program history to make 300 or more three-pointers. He ended his fantastic career ranked 17th on the program’s all-time scoring list with 1,320 points. Samson became the 39th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points on Nov. 27, 2015 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. He also ended his career entering the top-10 all-time in several other categories. Samson finished fifth in free throw percentage (82.4%), seventh in three-point shooting percentage (37.7%), and ninth on the all-time steals list (133). The 2014-15 season was a record setting year as he set program records for three pointers in a season (103), and three-point attempts in a single season (286) during his junior season. Samson’s 103 threes made are the third most in a single season in CAA history, trailing only UNCW’s Brett Blizzard (109 threes in 2002-03) and James Madison’s Darren McLinton (122 threes in 1995-96). Samson earned conference Player of the Week honors twice and earned National Player of the Week recognition from the American Sports Network during his career. As a senior, Tanner Samson was a team captain and was named the team's MVP for the 2015-16 season.

2015-16 (Senior): One of the team captains for the Phoenix • Named American Sports Network National Player of the Week on Dec. 7, 2015 • Earned CAA Player of the Week honors on Dec. 7, 2015 • Concluded his four-year career as Elon's all-time leader in three-pointers made (324) and attempted (862) • Became the 39th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points on Nov. 27, 2015 against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi • Started in all 32 games during his senior season • Averaged a team-high 11.8 points per game during the 2015-16 campaign • Finished third in the CAA with 82 three-pointers • Notched his first-career 30-point scoring game, setting a career-high 31 points and completing his second-career double-double on Nov. 30 with 11 rebounds in a victory over Kennesaw State • Also tied a single-game career-high with eight three pointers in Elon's 103-93 overtime victory over Kennesaw State • Tied a career-high with six assists against Wesley College on Dec. 13 • Scored in double figures a team-high 18 times and scored 20+ points in five contests during the season • Was the team-leader in points in 11 of the team's 32 games during the season • Hit seven triples and scored 23 points in a narrow loss to Hofstra on Jan. 9, finishing 8-of-10 from the field. Also scored 20+ points against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (Nov. 27), Wesley College (Dec. 13), and Alabama State (Dec. 16).

2014-15 (Junior): Started all 33 games as a junior • Led the CAA and set an Elon record with 103 made three-point field goals • His 103 threes made are the third most in a single season in CAA history, trailing only UNCW’s Brett Blizzard (109 threes in 2002-03) and James Madison’s Darren McLinton (122 threes in 1995-96) • Attempted an Elon-record and CAA-best 286 three-pointers (third most in a single season in CAA history) • Shot 36 percent from long distance • Had five games with five or more threes made • Hit a season-high eight threes in a narrow overtime loss at Northwestern on Nov. 22 • Averaged 12.5 points per game and 4.2 rebounds per game on the year • Recorded his first career double-double with 25 points and 10 boards against Central Penn on Dec. 7 • Recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 boards against Delaware on Jan. 24 • Had six games with 20+ points • Led the team with 43 steals • Shot 84.1 percent (69-of-82) from the free throw line • Ended the season tied for third all-time in Elon history with Sebastian Koch with 242 career threes • Ended the year with 939 career points.

2013-14 (Sophomore): Played in all 32 games, making 22 starts • Named the SoCon Player of the Week on Dec. 10 • Averaged 9.4 points per game • Made 79 three-pointers on the year, the third most in a single season in school history • Shot 43.4 percent from three (79-of-182) on the year • Scored a season-high 23 points against VMI on Dec. 3, hitting five threes • Hit five threes in a game three times throughout the season • Tied a career-high at the time with 37 minutes played at Georgetown on Dec. 17 • Scored in double figures in 16 games during the season • Hauled down a season-high nine boards against VMI on Dec. 3. 

2012-13 (Freshman): Played in 32 games as a rookie, making 15 starts • Made first collegiate start at Butler on Nov. 10 • Averaged 7.1 points per game • Third on the team with 60 makes from three-point land • Averaged 28.1 minutes per game • Shot 90.9 percent (20-of-22) from the free throw line • Scored a season-high 15 points on Jan. 26 at The Citadel, hitting 5-of-12 from beyond the arc • Scored in doubles figures 10 times • Pulled down a season-high eight boards against College of Charleston on March 10 in the SoCon Tournament semifinals • Dished out six assists against Bridgewater on Nov. 13 • Recorded four steals against CofC on Dec. 1 and at The Citadel on Jan. 26.

High School: Helped Regis Jesuit to a pair of state titles in 2010 and 2011 • Was a three-time Continental League honoree • As a senior, picked up all-state accolades and was selected to play in the Colorado “The Show” All-Star game • Was first-team all-city selection and was named team MVP in his final season at Regis • Was named to the state all-tournament team as a junior and senior and won the Rocky Mountain Fall Showcase 3-Point Contest as a sophomore.

Fun Facts: Played at the same high school with former Elon Phoenix player and teammate Ryan Winters ('14) Went to high school with Olympic gold medalist, Missy Franklin.

Personal: Son of Curt and Becky Samson • Born August 28, 1993 • His mother, Becky, was a two-sport athlete (cross country and tennis) at Creighton University.
